Homeroom is THE productivity app built for students. Instead of switching between apps when studying which is distracting, manage your tasks, build better habits, track your mood, and lock in all in one app. The task manager lets you add subtasks and priority levels, and brain dump mode lets you get everything out of your head and into a list quickly. The habit tracker keeps a weekly view of your habits and tracks them over time. When it's time to study, the built-in Pomodoro timer helps you focus with planned work and break sessions. When studying, if something pops into your head that distracts you, write it down in the distraction zone so you remember to do it after you’re done studying. You earn XP every time you complete a task or finish a focus session, and weekly challenges keep you motivated to stay consistent. Homeroom was built for students who actually want to get stuff done. - Task manager with subtasks, priority levels, and brain dump mode - Habit tracker with streak tracking - Distraction zone - Built-in Pomodoro focus timer - Daily mood logging with weekly insights - XP system and weekly challenges - Customizable themes and daily reminders

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Homeroom at 5.0 against Heptabase's 4.3. Heptabase's advantage is ratings volume (71 vs 9) and iOS requirement (15.5 vs 26.2). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Homeroom holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Heptabase has 71 ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two.
