Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: ROOTS Dispensary at free against Zen Leaf+'s free with in-app purchases. Zen Leaf+'s advantage is ratings volume (17K vs 78) and update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months). On price, rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Zen Leaf+ against 4.9 for ROOTS Dispensary. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Zen Leaf+ has 17K ratings behind it against 78, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 77% of Zen Leaf+'s written reviews are positive against 80% of ROOTS Dispensary's.
Zen Leaf+ ships an update monthly, ROOTS Dispensary every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 31, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
