Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: A Kindling Forest at 4.2 against Crunchyroll's 3.4. A Kindling Forest also leads on ratings volume (47 vs 5) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). Crunchyroll's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 82%) and update cadence (every 8 days vs every 3 weeks). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. A Kindling Forest sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Crunchyroll sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $13.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
A Kindling Forest holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: A Kindling Forest has 47 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 82% of A Kindling Forest's written reviews are positive against 100% of Crunchyroll's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
A Kindling Forest ships an update every 3 weeks, Crunchyroll every 8 days. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
