About

aliasing.ar

aliasing.ar is an audiovisual sound walk combining field recordings and photogrammetry of a scene with voice-over and snapshots from other users connecting to the app or to an alternate version of the work in a web browser. The app is part of ALIASING, a larger project exploring imaginings of online space, mediated perception and digital identity. aliasingxaliasing is the newest implementation of the project, manifesting in an interactive work for two communicating virtual spaces. The project explores aliasing both as being perceived – named – and as a discrepancy between what is perceived and the means by which it is perceived – what it means to wrap a thought in words and to be present with one another within technologically mediated collectives, as much as to capture a variably oscillating light source through the fixed frame rate of a camera. aliasingxaliasing was produced as a study for a larger upcoming work including a physical exhibition, and was shown during BROWSER SOUND 2023: LOCATION SHARING, presented both for an audience in person exploring the AR-app, and a remote audience accessing the browser app. Both of these experiences connect and mediate the perspectives of the work as seen by the other participants. The work was co-developed by Steffen Reichelt and Evelin Felix Lindberg in 2023.

About

Laguna Beach Portal

Experience Laguna Beach The Laguna Beach Portal app uses augmented reality portals, 360-degree video and 3D audio to provide you with unique and interesting experiences while you walk the streets of Laguna Beach, California. Each experience consists of a series of portals, or doorways, that have been strategically placed around Laguna allowing anyone with an iPhone to experience the Laguna Beach lifestyle in ways that have not been possible in the past. Each experience is guided by a person who is involved in the subject and can share nuanced information and interesting insight into Laguna Beach. As you approach a portal, an arched doorway appears, and as you walk through the doorway you are walking into that location at a different time, or a different location altogether. The app contains an expanding list of experiences that will include musical tours, public art tours, surf tours, historical tours, shopping tours, views into local sporting events, (like the Laguna Beach Open Volleyball Tournament) and a tour of one of Laguna’s sister cities--Menton, France. You will use your phone’s screen as a window into the experience. This app is aware of your location and is designed to work in Laguna Beach, California. Please use earphones or earbuds while using this app. You will hear an audio narration as you move from one portal to the next. To hear the narration again, simply touch the Redo control (the circular arrow) on the app’s control bar. Once you’re in a portal, go ahead and look around--it’s a 360-degree experience. Feel free to move around within the portal, but don’t venture too far-- the width of each portal is currently set to about 50 feet. Each portal will remain open for about 90 seconds. When one portal closes you will be given audible instructions to locate the next portal. For additional help finding the next portal, simply touch the Navigation Arrow on your phone’s screen. The direction and distance to the next portal will be displayed momentarily each time you touch the Navigation Arrow.
