Measures light spectrum to determine the dominant wavelength in nm, frequency in THz and period length in fs. DOMINANT WAVELENGTH Dominant wavelength is a concept commonly used in the field of color science and perception. It refers to the wavelength of light that appears most prominent or dominant in a given color mixture or light source. In other words, it is the wavelength that our eyes perceive as the primary color in a mixture of different wavelengths. For light with only one wavelength, such as the light from a colored LED, the dominant wavelength corresponds to the wavelength of that light. KEY FEATURES • High accuracy • Real-time measurement • Measures light wavelength in nanometers (nm) • Measures light frequency in terahertz (Thz) • Measures light period length in femtoseconds (fs) • Easy to use • Save measurements with notes • Supports 40 languages, including english • Optional calibration for enhanced precision MEASURING 1. Find a white surface, such as a plain piece of white paper 2. Point your camera at the surface illuminated by your target light source 3. The app gives you accurate measurements in real-time LIMITATIONS Smartphone cameras have limitations when it comes to distinguishing between different very short, or very long wavelengths. More specifically, on many devices the accuracy below 465 nm and above 610 nm is very limited. This is due to the physical camera sensors in the devices. An automatic warning appears on the screen for these short and long wavelengths. WHITE LIGHT Note that is not meaningful to measure the dominant wavelength of white light as white light consists of a wide range of wavelengths, with no wavelength dominating. This app is made for measuring colored light. If you are interested in determining the color temperature of white light, please instead use our popular White Balance Kelvin Meter app. COLOR OF SURFACES If you want to measure the color of a surface or material, rather than of light, please instead use our popular Colorimeter Camera Color Meter app. Privacy Policy, https://spectrometer.contechity.com/pp.html End User License Agreement, https://spectrometer.contechity.com/eula.html CONTACT I value your feedback. Perfect for both seasoned gardeners and beginners, PPFD Meter sets itself apart from standard grow light meter apps with its comprehensive features and intuitive design. Using your phone's built-in sensors or the acclaimed UNI-T UT383 BT sensor via Bluetooth, PPFD Meter provides precise and reliable light measurements. This accuracy is essential for understanding and optimizing the light your plants receive, ensuring their health and growth. PPFD Meter is more than a light measurement tool; it's a guide to understanding your plants' needs. It converts LUX readings into PPFD (Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density) and DLI (Daily Light Integral), providing critical insights for your lighting setup. Customize up to five different settings profiles for various environments or growth stages, making your plant care as unique as your garden. Advanced Light Mapping and Analysis Step into a new era of light management with PPFD Meter's advanced light mapping capabilities. Our exclusive PAR and DLI Maps feature offers a vivid, detailed representation of light distribution across your grow area, enabling precise adjustments for optimal plant growth. But that's just the beginning: In-Depth Light Analysis: Measure light uniformity to ensure even plant growth, and evaluate your setup's PPF (Photosynthetic Photon Flux) to understand the total light output. Efficiency and Consumption Insights: Assess the efficiency of your lighting system in converting energy into usable light. Track the daily total energy consumption to manage your energy usage and environmental impact effectively. Comprehensive DLI Tracking: Monitor the Daily Light Integral, a key factor in regulating plant health and growth cycles, ensuring your plants receive the right amount of light each day. Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is ads: Light Spectrometer Wavelength at none against PPFD METER's shown. Light Spectrometer Wavelength also leads on review sentiment (73% vs 53%) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18.0). PPFD METER's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.2) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, ratings volume, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Light Spectrometer Wavelength sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and PPFD METER sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

PPFD METER holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 94 and 125 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 73% of Light Spectrometer Wavelength's written reviews are positive against 53% of PPFD METER's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Light Spectrometer Wavelength ships an update every 2 months, PPFD METER every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 9, 2026 and October 10, 2026 respectively.
