Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: PhET Simulations at 4.5 against Maths Formulas's 2.5. PhET Simulations also leads on ratings volume (49 vs 2) and chart position (#43 vs unranked). Maths Formulas's advantage is update cadence (every 2 months vs every 14 months). On review sentiment, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

PhET Simulations holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 2.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: PhET Simulations has 49 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 71% of Maths Formulas's written reviews are positive against 66% of PhET Simulations's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Maths Formulas ships an update every 2 months, PhET Simulations every 14 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
