Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: VRM Pose Filer at none against Charactool's 4. VRM Pose Filer also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 89%) and iOS requirement (15.6 vs 18.0). Charactool's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and rating (4.7 vs 4.5). On price, update cadence, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Charactool sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. VRM Pose Filer asks for nothing beyond the download.
Charactool holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Charactool has 20 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of VRM Pose Filer's written reviews are positive against 89% of Charactool's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
VRM Pose Filer ships an update every 4 weeks, Charactool every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 28, 2026 respectively.
