The purpose of this metronome is to eventually eliminate the need for itself. The goal, of course, is to master the exercises without the help of an electronic aid. Until then, this tool may offer some support. Please keep in mind, however, that the primary function of the k-metronome is to facilitate the application of Karnatic (South Indian) rhythmic principles to Western music. # Features - Tuplets, or pulse divisions (gati or nadai), ranging from 2 to 13 - Tuplet phrasing (tuplet randomisation to help ultimately master the rhythm pyramid) - Tuplet groupings or accents applied to tuplets (jathis) - Fade feature to practise groupings or advanced polyrhythmic chains - Nested tuplets - Flexible user sequence design based on numbers, paving the way for various creative approaches to - practice - Polyrhythm chains, e.g. 4:5, 5:3, 20:3 - Video tutorials and how-tos - Keyboard shortcuts - Presets can be stored locally, exported and shared Please note that any parameter changes will take effect on the next beat. Combined with keyboard shortcuts, this feature offers great flexibility for interactive practice, distinguishing it from other metronome apps. This practice tool aims to be helpful for students of the "Applications of Karnatic (South Indian) Rhythm to Western Music" programme at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. It may also inspire other musicians who want to explore the intricate world of rhythm and enhance their skills through the solid methodology laid out in Rafael Reina’s book Applying Karnatic Rhythmical Techniques to Western Music (Routledge, 2015). Of course, the primary credit goes to the incredibly rich karnatic and Hindustani traditions and to the brilliant musicians who have shaped this unique musical art form. One of the most outstanding mridangam players and konnakol artists of his generation is B. C. Manjunath. He is also well known for his contributions to the worlds of jazz and contemporary music, for example through his work with Aka Moon, Riccardo Nova, and many others. At its core, k-metronome is designed from a Western pedagogical perspective, while drawing deeply on Karnatic rhythmic principles.

About

Rehearsio

Everything you need for a practice session, in one app. Sheet music, annotations, metronome, tuner, recorder, notes and practice history — all inside one rehearsal session. No switching between apps. No writing the same thing down twice. You start practicing, and everything you need is already there. When you finish, Rehearsio leaves you with a record of what you actually worked on. WHAT A SESSION LOOKS LIKE Start a session and the clock runs automatically. Your score is open, the metronome is a tap away, the recorder is ready, and your practice time is tracked by piece — not just as one total. When you finish, your session summary shows what you practiced, for how long, and what you recorded. SHEET MUSIC YOU CAN WRITE ON Import PDFs from Files, Mail, or anywhere you can share. Add fingerings, bowings, breaths, reminders and more directly to the page. Six pencils and a highlighter, musical stamps, typed notes, eraser and undo — everything is there when you need it. Your annotations stay with the score, even when you make them in the middle of a run-through. Share an annotated copy with your teacher while keeping the original untouched. A METRONOME THAT HOLDS THE BEAT Set time signatures, accents, subdivisions and tempo, or tap in the tempo yourself. It keeps playing while you use the rest of the app — even when you turn the page. A TUNER FOR ANYTHING WITH A PITCH A clear note, cents display and stable needle. Choose your instrument for more focused tuning, or use chromatic mode for anything. A reference note is also available when you prefer to tune by ear. RECORD THE RUN-THROUGH Record without leaving the score. Start a take, keep practicing, and listen back afterwards — with the annotations you made during the session still there. Recordings stay on your device unless you choose to share them. NOTES AND TASKS THAT KNOW THE PIECE What your teacher said. What to fix before Friday. What to ask next lesson. Keep notes and tasks attached to the piece so they are there when you need them again. SEE THE WEEKS ADD UP Track practice days, minutes per piece, tempo and progress over time. Rehearsio counts what you actually played, giving you a clear picture of your practice — not just what you intended to practice. BUILT FOR THE MUSIC STAND Large controls, warm paper-coloured surfaces and a distraction-free interface designed to be read while you play. Rehearsio supports VoiceOver and TalkBack so every control is clearly identified. YOUR WORK STAYS YOURS No account. No sign-in. Nothing is uploaded. Your scores, annotations, notes, recordings and practice history stay on your device. You can export your entire library to a single file and keep your own backup wherever you choose. FREE. NO ADS. Rehearsio is free to use, with no advertising and nothing to buy inside the app. Rehearsio is made by one person who practises. If something is broken or missing, you can reach them directly through the app.
