About

MorseSpeaker

MorseSpeaker listens to Morse code through your iPhone's microphone, decodes it in real time, and reads it aloud — no cables, no rig interface, no typing. Place your phone near the radio speaker and press Start Listening. MorseSpeaker finds the tone automatically, locks onto its frequency, follows the sender's speed, and turns dits and dahs into live text on screen while speaking each completed word. Plug in earbuds and the voice goes to your ears while the phone keeps listening to the radio. BUILT FOR ACCESSIBILITY FIRST Spoken copy is the point of this app, not a feature of it. MorseSpeaker was designed for blind and low-vision operators, for whom hearing received CW as words matters most: spoken output is the primary output, every control and status indicator carries a VoiceOver label, and the layout is simple enough to learn by touch. Visual indicators pair icons and text with color — never color alone — and the main signal indicator is large, bold, and readable in direct sunlight for field operation. WORKS WITH REAL RADIO Automatic tone detection from 300–1200 Hz — no frequency dial to set Automatic speed tracking from roughly 5 to 40 WPM, following the sender as they drift Decodes letters, numerals, punctuation, and the BT, AR, and SK prosigns used in W1AW code practice and on-air traffic Live signal coaching: on-screen alerts tell you when the Morse is too quiet or nothing decodable is arriving, so calibration takes seconds, not guesswork Optional ham-aware word correction heals one-letter decode errors in plain English — and is built to never touch callsigns, Q-codes, or ham shorthand Survives interruptions: a phone call pauses listening cleanly and decoding resumes when you hang up, frequency lock intact PRIVATE BY ARCHITECTURE All audio is analyzed on your device, in the moment. Nothing is recorded, stored, or transmitted — there is no server, no account, no analytics, and no ads. The app works entirely offline. GETTING THE BEST COPY Morse traveling through open air is real-world signal work. For best results, set the phone 6–10 inches from the radio speaker with the bottom edge (where the microphone is) facing it, use earbuds, and follow the on-screen signal alerts. A first-launch guide walks you through setup in under a minute. MorseSpeaker works with any Morse audio source: a rig's speaker, code practice recordings such as W1AW transmissions, or another operator keying across the room. Designed by a Ham, KB0RZB.
