Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Hexagonal Chess at none against The Ouroboros King's 1. The Ouroboros King's advantage is ratings volume (62 vs 3) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. The Ouroboros King sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Hexagonal Chess asks for nothing beyond the download.
The Ouroboros King holds the better App Store score, 3.8 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: The Ouroboros King has 62 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 62% of The Ouroboros King's written reviews are positive against 67% of Hexagonal Chess's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
The Ouroboros King ships an update every 5 months, Hexagonal Chess every 6 months. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
