Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Connections at none against Select 4 Words's shown. Connections also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.5). Select 4 Words's advantage is update cadence (every 2 days vs every 10 days) and ratings volume (13 vs 1). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Select 4 Words sells 4 one-off in-app purchases and Connections sells 8 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Connections holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Select 4 Words has 13 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Select 4 Words ships an update every 2 days, Connections every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
