The app on the history of the inner-German border - Interactive travel guide - Audio guide - Outdoor educational tool - 1,378 km of inner-German border - Around 1,000 locations - Background information - Various routes for individual exploration of the Green Belt national natural monument The Green Belt App is a multimedia tool that provides guidance and support to people along the entire former inner-German border. The outdoor application serves as both a navigation aid and an educational tool. Covering a distance of 1,393 kilometres – from Prex on the Czech border to Priwall on the Baltic Sea – it follows existing hiking trails and tells the story of German division, its impact on people and the development of the border region into Germany's largest contiguous natural biotope at over 850 stations. The app is based on the successful and established berlinHistory app, which was developed by the non-profit association berlinHistory e.V. under a white label licence to make historical traces visible in a contemporary digital application. Since September 2022, berlinHistory e.V. has been working with various cooperation partners – including the Thuringia Nature Conservation Foundation, the Saxon State Commissioner for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship, BUND and many other actors – on the comprehensive recording of places, landscapes and stories on both sides of the former demarcation line. To date, numerous locations have been visited, photographically documented and processed with texts and geodata.
