About

Nits

Features

Nits is a fast, native viewer for 16-bit HDR TIFFs — built for photographers who want to see every stop of light their camera captured, in full dynamic range, on the HDR display of their iPad or iPhone. Open a TIFF and it fills the screen instantly. Pinch to zoom all the way to 1:1 pixels with fluid, tile-based rendering that stays sharp no matter how large the file. No waiting, no downsampled mush. — SEE TRUE HDR — Nits renders gain-map and float HDR TIFFs in full extended dynamic range, so highlights glow the way they did in the scene instead of clipping to white. — READ YOUR IMAGE — • NEW: Pixel Inspector. Touch and hold anywhere to open a true-HDR loupe with magnified pixels and each channel's value, including how many stops above SDR white it sits. The readout stays the same whatever your screen brightness. • Live RGB histogram with an SDR/HDR split, so you can see at a glance which highlights are still in range. • EXIF panel with focal length, aperture, shutter, ISO, lens, color profile, bit depth, and HDR headroom. — SHARE IN HDR — NEW: Export any image as HDR HEIC, JPEG, or the original TIFF — to Photos, Files, or anywhere the share sheet reaches. • HDR HEIC keeps the full dynamic range and looks the same at any screen brightness. • Choose Small, Medium, Full, or a custom size. • Keep your camera metadata, or strip it before you share. — MOVE THROUGH A SHOOT — • Filmstrip of every image in the folder — tap a thumbnail to jump straight to it. • Swipe left or right to step through frames. — BUILT TO BE FAST — Tile-based Metal rendering, memory-mapped files, and caches that scale to your device's chip mean even huge multi-hundred-megapixel HDR files open and pan smoothly — and full-resolution exports never need the whole image in memory. — MADE BY A PHOTOGRAPHER — I built Nits because I was tired of waiting fifteen seconds for a 600 MB HDR TIFF to open. So I wrote my own viewer that opens them instantly and renders them in full dynamic range. Every example image inside the app is from my own travels in France, Tanzania, Japan, and Zanzibar. Nits is a focused viewer — no account, no subscription, no clutter. Buy it once, open your images, and see them at their best.
