On August 2, 2027, a total solar eclipse will cross southern Spain, North Africa, Egypt and Arabia, and in Upper Egypt the sky will stay dark for more than six minutes, a totality no eclipse will match until 2114. The Eclipse App is your companion for the whole day: an interactive map of the path of totality, a rehearsal so you know what's coming, and a live countdown that guides you second by second, from first contact to the moment your eclipse glasses come off. ▶ YOUR ECLIPSE See exactly what the eclipse looks like from your location: whether you'll see totality, how long it lasts, how much of the Sun is covered, and when every phase begins and ends, down to the second. Outside the path? You'll see your partial eclipse times too. Preview your sky in advance, and turn on Day-of Alerts so nothing sneaks up on you. ▶ THE MAP Explore the path of totality from the Strait of Gibraltar across Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, and on over Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Tap any spot on the eclipse map to see its timing, how long totality lasts there, and how far it sits from the path. Comparing two towns? The map makes the tradeoffs easy to see, and Travel mode shows how long the drive into the path takes from cities nearby. ▶ HEAT, DUST AND CLOUDS In 2027 the Sun stands high over much of the path, nearly overhead in Egypt and Arabia, and in August the heat and the desert dust matter as much as the clouds. Historical maps of heat, dust haze and cloud cover show what each spot has typically been like at eclipse hour, so you can plan for shade, water and the clearest sky. ▶ REHEARSAL Practice eclipse day before it arrives, at your own pace. Walk through every phase from first contact to last, learn when glasses go on and come off, and try the camera and recorder ahead of time, so the real day feels familiar instead of frantic. ▶ LIVE COUNTDOWN When the day comes, the eclipse countdown guides you in real time: what's happening, what to watch for, and exactly when it's safe to take your glasses off. An optional spoken audio guide keeps you hands-free. The totality countdown also stays live on your Lock Screen, so a glance is all it takes. ▶ SNAP AND RECORD Take a photo without leaving the countdown. Scene mode shows the strange light around you, and Sun mode helps you aim and expose for the Sun itself. Or tap Record, put your phone down, and keep the sound of totality: the hush, the gasps, the cheers. ▶ RELIVE Afterward, press play. Your photos and recordings play back on the eclipse's own timeline, just as they happened. It's the closest thing to standing back under the Moon's shadow. Sign in to back up your spots and Relives to your account. ▶ GOOD TO KNOW - Free to use, no account needed and no subscriptions. Chaser, the clear-sky forecasting upgrade, is a single one-time purchase per eclipse. - Available in ten languages: English, Spanish, Catalan, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Icelandic, and Japanese. - Useful across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and beyond: even far from totality, you can see how much of the Sun will be covered where you are. A note on safety: outside of totality, only look at the Sun through certified eclipse glasses or solar filters. The app tells you when, and proper glasses do the protecting. A total solar eclipse is brief, and it doesn't wait. We built this app so you can spend those minutes looking up. theeclipse.app/privacy theeclipse.app/terms

Bhopper shows you what's actually happening at Boston bars right now. Pull up the Feed and see the current cover charge and wait time at every open bar in town - reported in real time by the people standing at the door. No more guessing whether it's a $5 night at The Black Rose or a $20 cover at Lookout Rooftop. No more circling the block just to find out the wait at Cisco is forty-five minutes. Two taps to share what you see. Two taps to know before you go. WHAT'S INSIDE • Feed - tonight's live cover and wait Badges across every open Boston bar, sorted by what's freshest. • Map - every bar in the city as a pin colored by its current state. Active, quiet, or closed at a glance. • Post - two taps to drop a Cover or Wait report. Anonymous; no account, no email, no phone number. • Bar detail - see the individual reports behind the Badge so you can read the testimony directly instead of trusting an average. Flag any single report as inaccurate and it drops out of aggregation. • Favorites - pin the bars you actually go to and they float to the top of the Feed. HOW WE TREAT YOUR DATA • No accounts. Your identity is an anonymous UUID stored in the iOS Keychain. It never leaves your device except to label your own reports. • Your raw GPS is never stored. When you submit a Cover or Wait, the app classifies how close you are to the bar into a coarse tier (verified, nearby, remote) and discards the exact coordinates the moment that tier is computed. • No third-party analytics. No advertising SDKs. No tracking across apps. No selling, no sharing. • Delete everything with one button. Me tab ->Delete my data. Erases every report you've ever submitted from the backend, clears your favorites, and gives this device a brand-new anonymous identity. SCOPE Bhopper is Boston-only at launch - bars in Southie, Fenway, the Seaport, Faneuil Hall, the South End, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Allston, Dorchester, and the Greenway. More cities are on the roadmap. Privacy policy: https://petertimwalker.github.io/bhopper-site/privacy.html Support: petertwalker@gmail.com

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Bhopper at 5.0 against The Eclipse App's 4.0. Bhopper also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 2). The Eclipse App's advantage is ratings volume (100 vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.1 vs 17.0). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. The Eclipse App sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Bhopper asks for nothing beyond the download.
Bhopper holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: The Eclipse App has 100 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and September 27, 2026 respectively.
