About

Mordant

Features

Mordant lifts the subject out of a photograph and takes the background with it. Bring a photograph to the plate and the cutout is ready — full resolution, no watermark, nothing uploaded. One pass, on your device. Everything after it — background, edge, brush — is immediate, because the lift is never re-run on a slider drag. On iPad, the full editing surface. On iPhone, a deliberately lighter flow: the cutout, the brush, a comparison with the original, and export. On the Mac, all of it, including batch. FREE • Automatic subject detection, and a choice of which subjects to keep • Transparent PNG export at full resolution • Solid-colour backgrounds, from a palette or the colour picker • Add or remove by brush — when the lift is wrong, the fix is not for sale • Compare with the original at any point in the work • Photographs from Photos, Files or a drag, and standard undo PRO — one-off unlock, no subscription, on every platform • Batch a whole folder against one recipe, with a filename template, beside each source or as a matching tree (Mac) • Feather, tighten, and clear colour spill from soft edges • A pass built for hair and fur • Backgrounds from an image, an angled or radial gradient, or the blurred original • Clear space measured from the subject, so a catalogue matches • Output fitted to an aspect, or sized by percentage or long edge • HEIC, TIFF and JPEG, with quality, colour profile and a matte colour you choose • The matte on its own, as a separate file • Strip EXIF, keep it, or keep it minus GPS, decided as you export • Export presets and Shortcuts actions (Mac) Pro buys volume, control and integration — never quality. A free cutout is exactly as good as a Pro one. YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS Your photographs never leave your device. The subject lift, the matte and every export run on your iPhone, iPad or Mac using frameworks built into the system. No image, filename or dimension is ever uploaded, and there is no account, no cloud and no queue on anyone else's server. Stated separately, because it is a different thing: Mordant reports anonymous usage and crash diagnostics, so faults can be found and fixed. This is about the app, never about your pictures.
