DeepNic vs Cyprus Airways

DeepNic is a location-based augmented reality (AR) application that allows the user to explore the historic centre of the city of Nicosia, Cyprus. The application explores twenty points of interest on both sides of Nicosia’s buffer zone and shows how they have changed over time. It encourages the user to walk the Cypriot capital to explore these sites and find out, through the tool, how they looked in the past. Some of these sites look almost the same until today, others are completely changed, and a few of them no longer exist. This application is part of a two-year research project funded by the Research and Innovation Foundation of the Republic of Cyprus (2022-2024) and it is called Deep mapping Nicosia’s urban centre, 1960-2020 (DeepNic). The project aims to investigate the evolution and transformation of Nicosia’s urban centre from a historical and sociological perspective using several types of data such as written, oral, and visual. It takes the whole of the urban centre of Nicosia as a case study, to examine how its transformation within a certain period is affected by key political and social developments that occurred from 1960 until today in three thematic areas: monument building, business activity, and demography. All the project findings are available on a map-based platform at https://deepnic.cyens.org.cy/ which we encourage you to visit. DeepNic Features: - An AR experience by using the camera of the phone. - Interactive map to explore Nicosia and some amazing Points of Interest. - It includes 40 pictures from the past and the present of Nicosia. - Supports English, Greek, and Turkish languages. Explore with ease in your preferred language.
