ASR Studio vs Orchestra Audition Prep

ASR Studio is an audio toolkit designed to complement the Audio Shoulder Rest (ASR) — a smart, audio-enabled shoulder rest for string instruments, created by Matter Squared. Used by professionals, amateurs, educators and students alike, ASR Studio helps transform practice sessions into interactive learning experiences. Whether you're tuning up, syncing bow strokes to the metronome, or practicing intonation, the app empowers string players to listen more deeply and practice with purpose. While designed for integration with the ASR hardware, the app also works independently.

Audition Prep by Pultfrei is a local-first preparation tool for classical musicians preparing orchestra auditions. When you prepare several auditions at once, things get messy fast: excerpt lists from job postings, set pieces, overlapping excerpts, sheet-music PDFs, reference recordings, your own takes and practice notes end up scattered everywhere. Audition Prep brings this preparation together in one clear workflow. You create your auditions, import or enter the excerpt list, and grade every excerpt A/B/C. The app recognizes identical or similar excerpts across auditions — so you instantly see which excerpts count more than once and where practice time has the biggest leverage. For every excerpt you can collect sheet music, PDFs, photos, tempo, reference links, notes, sessions and recordings. Build rounds and play them in audition mode. Especially on iPad, this mode is made to put the device on your music stand, start a round and move from excerpt to excerpt. Preparation is more than playing. The Performance module brings together mental and physical preparation for auditions, solos, concerts and exams: start with what is going on right now – tight while practising, shaking hands, racing thoughts – and get fitting exercises: breath reset, centering, muscle relaxation, imagery with your own excerpts, mock auditions in steps. Every exercise is guided, with animations and spoken guidance or text step by step. Programs take you up to your date, the methods atlas grades fifteen methods honestly by their evidence, and a tension check-in before and after each exercise shows what helps you. Built-in tuner, metronome with per-excerpt tempo steps, and a recorder are one tap away. A daily practice plan adapts to how many days remain until your audition. Audition Prep is not a generic practice app, not a sheet-music app and not an audio-analysis app. The focus is audition preparation: structure your repertoire, see your priorities and practice in the right context.
