Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Obloid at 3.6 against ModelPlay's 3.0. Obloid also leads on ratings volume (77 vs 8). ModelPlay's advantage is monetization model (free vs subscription) and ads (none vs shown). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ModelPlay sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Obloid sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Obloid holds the better App Store score, 3.6 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Obloid has 77 ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 27% of ModelPlay's written reviews are positive against 14% of Obloid's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
ModelPlay ships an update every 2 weeks, Obloid monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
