Enter the world of neutrons! They are a powerful and highly acclaimed tool not only for the study of condensed matter (the world we live in) but also for confirming our current understanding of physics. What's more, you don't even need to be a scientist to use Neutrons4Science. Just be curious! Neutrons and protons are elementary particles constituting the nucleus of atoms. The neutron has no electric charge but has a spin and a magnetic moment. Neutron beams - like beams of X-rays, electrons or muons - are valuable tools for studying the multitude of materials that surround us in our daily lives (alloys, magnets, superconductors, polymers, colloids, proteins, biological systems, …). However, the way neutrons interact with matter is quite unique and, as a result, it can often reveal to us what is normally hidden. With Neutrons4Science you can discover one of the many types of neutron spectroscopy. The neutron also answers questions on the very foundations of physics, helping us to solve some of the great mysteries of the universe (Is the Grand Unified theory valid? Is there a fifth fundamental force? ...) As an example, Neutrons4Science gives you insights to a brand new method of neutron spectroscopy that takes advantage of the quantum states of this light neutral particle. Neutrons4Science lets you experience neutron science through three interactive 3D animations: • ThALES: Use a neutron spectrometer as if you were performing a real experiment. • Magnons: Discover the spin waves that exist inside magnetic materials and understand how ThALES can observe them. • GRANIT: Discover an innovative gravitational spectrometer based on neutron quantum states in a gravitational field. These three educational animations were developed with the help of scientists at the "Institut Laue-Langevin", one of the world's flagship facilities for neutron science.

Experience the hidden world of particles Quantum is a real-time particle life sandbox for exploring emergent motion, artificial physics, and complex systems. Build fields with up to 10,000 particles, tune how classes attract or repel each other, and watch simple rules turn into flowing structures, swarms, or chaotic patterns. Why Quantum stands out: - Real-time particle simulation with four interacting particle classes. - Seamless 2D fields and perspective 3D volumes with touch rotation. - Rule editor for custom attraction and repulsion matrices. - Temperature, viscosity, solid/fluid edge behavior, and force tools. - Black hole and white hole tools for live interaction. - Save and load fields, rule sets, and color schemes. - P3 color support and vivid visual presets for generative art. Use Quantum as a physics toy, creative sandbox, teaching aid, or generative art lab. It is built for people who enjoy science, cellular automata, n-body systems, chaos, and beautiful simulations.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Quantum at 4.8 against Neutrons4Science's 4.0. Quantum also leads on update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 8 months) and ratings volume (150 vs 1). Neutrons4Science's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 6) and review sentiment (100% vs 81%). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Quantum sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Neutrons4Science asks for nothing beyond the download.
Quantum holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Quantum has 150 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Neutrons4Science's written reviews are positive against 81% of Quantum's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Neutrons4Science ships an update every 8 months, Quantum every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 9, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
