Features like text-to-speech ensure precise pronunciation, while discreet hover translations offer contextual clues without interrupting the learning process. This approach supports a gradual, natural development of vocabulary and grammar skills, promoting fluency through direct interaction with foreign language content.
Verbavia
Read full descriptionHide full description
Verbavia is a language learning app built around the science and pedagogy of language learning. Thus, each of Verbavia's lessons opens with 4, 6, or 8 words depending on which level of comprehensiveness you select. Each daily lesson is designed to be intentionally difficult, but enjoyable, such that even a single daily lesson is more than enough to bring you to full fluency. Verbavia offers 15 different languages: Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Mandarin Chinese, Samoan, Esperanto, Tok Pisin, Fijian, Marshallese, Kiribati, Palauan, Rapa Nui, and Shanghainese, each with an authentic voice. Every lesson is assembled almost entirely from words you have already met. Vocabulary turning up in an exercise before anyone taught it to you is the failure that quietly sinks most language apps, and Verbavia treats it as a defect rather than a quirk. Review of flashcards is handled by spaced repetition, and every card that falls due is shown to you. There is no daily cap, and no quiet deferral of your backlog to keep a streak looking healthy. A word joins your deck the first time you answer it, and its schedule adapts to how well you actually did. Verbavia also runs in your browser at verbavia.com. Sign in on both and your deck, your streak and your place in the syllabus stay in step.
