CASE: Animatronics is a truly scary and challenging first-person stealth horror. Control of the police department is in the hands of an anonymous hacker. All the exits are locked. The power has been shut off. There are metallic thumps getting closer. Will you survive, Detective Bishop? Welcome to the police department, where working late can lead to tragic consequences. You're John Bishop, a overworked detective who tirelessly carries out investigations late into the night. You’re torn from yet another night of fitful rest and nightmares by a strange call from an old friend, turning your whole world upside-down. Your police department is cut off from the power grid. The security system has been hacked. All the exits are locked. But that’s not the real problem. Someone, someTHING, is following you. Red eyes shine from dark corners, and the sound of shifting, clanking metal echoes through once-safe halls. You know them simply as animatronics, but something unknown and horrifying is driving them. Figure out what’s going on, survive the night, and find the one responsible for this madness.

Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: CASE at weekly against Playdead's LIMBO's every 3 months. CASE also leads on review sentiment (88% vs 69%) and price ($2.99 vs $3.99). Playdead's LIMBO's advantage is ratings volume (2.7K vs 52) and rating (4.6 vs 4.3). On ads, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Playdead's LIMBO costs $3.99 and CASE $2.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Playdead's LIMBO holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Playdead's LIMBO has 2.7K ratings behind it against 52, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 69% of Playdead's LIMBO's written reviews are positive against 88% of CASE's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Playdead's LIMBO ships an update every 3 months, CASE weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
