An independent app for travelmapping.net — the community-driven project that tracks highway and rail travel across the world. The app is made by one Travel Mapping user; the website, route data, and stats are the work of the Travel Mapping project's volunteers, who aren't involved in the app. Browse interactive maps showing every road and rail segment you've clinched. See your progress across regions, compare stats with other travelers on the leaderboard, and discover new routes to explore. FEATURES Maps & Visualization - Interactive maps with your traveled and remaining road segments - Rail and transit route overlays - Customizable line styles, widths, and map themes - Select segments directly on the map to generate .list file entries Statistics & Rankings - Mileage breakdowns by region, category, and route - See your closest-to-clinched and longest-clinched routes - Overall ranking and percentile among all travelers - Distance tracking in miles or kilometers Road Trip Recording - GPS-based trip recording that runs in the background - Automatic segment matching to TravelMapping routes - See which parts of each trip are new and which are already in your .list file, colored on the map - Full-screen trip map with satellite view and replay - Live Activity with distance, speed, and matched segments on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island - Dark driving-mode dashboard designed for glances Keeping Your .list File Current - New segments from recorded trips are added to your .list file the way you organize it — by state, highway system, or route order - A pending list gathers everything from all your trips that isn't in your file yet - Optional GitHub sign-in opens the pull request for you, or copy the updated file into GitHub's editor yourself - List checkup finds lines that didn't count in Travel Mapping's last nightly update and suggests fixes checked against current route data - Optional AI suggestions using your own Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok API key — off unless you add a key and allow it Route Planner - Preview TravelMapping segments along a planned route - Discover which routes you'd clinch on your next road trip Sharing & Export - Share polished stats cards and map snapshots - Rich link previews in Messages - Copy, share, or export .list file entries Cross-Device Sync - iCloud sync for favorites, settings, and preferences - Home screen widgets showing your travel stats - Apple Watch companion app HOW IT WORKS Travel Mapping tracks which highway and rail segments you've traveled by maintaining .list files — simple text files listing your clinched route segments. The community at travelmapping.net processes these files and visualizes your travels on interactive maps. This app lets you browse that data, track your progress, and keep your .list file current — select segments on the map, or record GPS road trips that match to TravelMapping routes, and the app adds the new parts to your file. New to Travel Mapping? The app includes a Get Started guide to help you create your username and submit your first .list file. SUPPORTED REGIONS Travel Mapping covers highways in nearly 400 regions across 147 countries, plus rail and transit via tmrail.teresco.org. OPEN SOURCE & COMMUNITY Travel Mapping is a volunteer-driven, open-source project. This app reads its public API — no account creation required. Privacy: No ads, no third-party analytics. Anonymous diagnostic data — crashes, performance metrics, app hangs, structured logs, screenshots, and short session replays — is collected via Sentry to improve app stability. Your TravelMapping username is the only identifier sent. Location data stays on your device or syncs privately via iCloud. Optional GitHub sign-in and AI suggestions send data only after you turn them on, and only to GitHub or the AI provider you choose — never to the developer. Tips in the app go to the app's developer, not to the Travel Mapping project.
