Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Hand Talk at 44% against Auditory Training's 0%. Hand Talk also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (894 vs 1). Auditory Training's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.2) and ads (none vs shown). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Hand Talk sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and Auditory Training sells 11 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Auditory Training holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Hand Talk has 894 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 44% of Hand Talk's written reviews are positive against 0% of Auditory Training's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Hand Talk ships an update every 3 weeks, Auditory Training every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
