Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: E at 100% against Firmware Update Tool's 20%. E also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 20 months) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 17.0). Firmware Update Tool's advantage is rating (4.0 vs 3.5). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Firmware Update Tool holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.5. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 5 and 2 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 20% of Firmware Update Tool's written reviews are positive against 100% of E's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Firmware Update Tool ships an update every 20 months, E every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
