Quantum Quack vs Decibel Meter & Dosimeter
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
Quantum Quack
This app generates decisions from a list of options using quantum random numbers derived from camera light fluctuations. It explores two interpretations of quantum mechanics: Copenhagen, where you escape determinism, and Many-Worlds, where you experience all options simultaneously. Shortcuts are available for common entries like yes/no or directions.

- What is this App? Quantum Quack makes a decision from a list of options you provide, using quantum random numbers, which are fundamentally different than ordinary random numbers. Making a decision based on quantum randomness has fascinating implications that vary depending on the various interpretations of quantum mechanics. The two main ones are detailed here, within the hypothetical and highly relevant example of choosing between an Italian and a Chinese restaurant. - In the Copenhagen Interpretation: This is historically the first dominant interpretation, and is therefore still presented as the standard one in most textbooks. In this interpretation, a quantum measurement "collapses" the quantum state onto one of its possible outcomes. The collapse is fundamentally random, as opposed to ordinary random processes. Indeed, the result of a dice roll for example, appears random to us only because it is a complex process to predict. However, it is in principle perfectly predictable, knowing the laws of mechanics and all the dice’s properties. The randomness here is emergent, not fundamental. All randomness at human scale is of this sort, and in principle every human-scale phenomena are determined in advance, even you reading this text right now! Making a quantum choice then breaks this deterministic chain of events. In other words, if some supernatural intelligence knew everything about the universe at the moment of your birth, it could predict everything about your future life, except if you’re going to that Italian or Chinese restaurant. In summary: you escape determinism. - In the Many-Worlds Interpretation: This is a popular interpretation among researchers working on the foundations of physics. In this interpretation, during a quantum process, the state of the universe splits into all possible outputs of the process, called "branches", each of which behaves as an independent universe. We then have two branches, one in which you go to the Italian restaurant, and one in which you go to the Chinese restaurant. Both exist simultaneously in the abstract state space of the universe. If the result turns out to be the Italian restaurant, you can take confort in the idea that, somewhere, you are also enjoying the Chinese restaurant. Lucky you! In summary: you end up doing all the options at once. - How does it work? Mobile phones contain an element that can measure quantum processes: the camera! The detection of light by a pixel is subject to quantum fluctuations (known as shot noise), and constitutes a quantum measurement as discussed above. When you tap "Quack it", the app takes a picture and uses these fluctuations to produce a random number, which is then used to pick one of your options with equal probabilities. Shortcuts are available for common entries, such as yes/no, directions (for quantum exploring), or digits.

Your hearing is irreplaceable. Know when it's at risk. Turn your iPhone into a sound level meter that monitors noise in real time and warns you before exposure becomes dangerous. Whether you're on a construction site, at a concert, or just curious about your daily environment — Decibel Meter gives you the clarity to protect what you can't get back. What You Get — Free: - Real-time decibel monitoring with a beautiful, color-coded gauge - Instant noise categories: Quiet, Moderate, Loud, Very Loud - Live current, peak, and average sound level statistics - OSHA and NIOSH exposure time tracking with visual warnings - Haptic feedback when noise levels change significantly - Background monitoring — keeps tracking when you switch apps - Dark mode and accessibility support What Pro Unlocks — One Purchase, Yours Forever: Smart Safety Alerts - Custom alert thresholds — set personal dB limits for any environment - Notifications at 80% of safe exposure time - Immediate alerts when OSHA/NIOSH limits are reached Noise History and Session Tagging - Track your exposure patterns over days and weeks - Tag sessions by location or activity (Office, Concert, Construction, and more) - Filter history by tag to find patterns - Detailed charts with peak and average levels Professional Tools - Calibration settings for reference level and offset adjustments - Noise exposure summaries (OSHA/NIOSH reference levels) — generate and share as PDF - Shareable PDF records of your measured noise exposure Who It's For: - Workers in noisy environments protecting their hearing - Safety professionals monitoring workplace noise - Sound engineers and musicians managing venue levels - Parents and teachers checking classroom or play environments - Anyone who wants to understand the noise around them Why It Matters: Noise-induced hearing loss is permanent. It builds gradually from exposure you may not notice. Decibel Meter tracks what your ears cannot — cumulative exposure over time — and tells you when to act. Please note: Decibel Meter uses your device microphone to provide estimates. It is not a certified sound level meter or dosimeter, and it is not intended for hearing-protection, medical, or regulatory decisions. Download now and find out what your ears have been living with. Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Quantum Quack at 5.0 against Decibel Meter & Dosimeter's 4.1. Quantum Quack also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 3) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). Decibel Meter & Dosimeter's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (18 vs 1). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.
