Layout 4 Band helps you build a stage layout for your ensemble in minutes, using just your phone or tablet. Decide who stands where and which instrument goes where: place instrument symbols on the canvas, arrange them, and save the whole chart as an image you can share. Who it is for - Concert band and orchestra directors, conductors, student conductors, and section leaders - Percussion ensemble instructors and planners - Concert and contest stage crew, stage managers, and audio staff - Anyone who needs to diagram and share who stands where for a musical group Main features Place instrument symbols Tap the canvas to drop a symbol where you want it. Scroll the palette at the top to pick one. Tap for the default size; some symbols offer size and type variants on a long press. Edit freely Drag to move, pinch to scale, and rotate any symbol. A long press opens a detail menu: copy, delete, delete multiple, reset rotation, reset scale, and edit text. Select All and Select Multiple are supported too. Overlay on a real stage photo Photograph the actual stage or rehearsal room floor, set it as the background, and lay out on top of it. Pick an existing photo or take one with the camera. When a background image is loaded, the canvas matches its proportions. Line things up with the center cross and grid Choose a level: off, center cross only, or a grid with 2, 4, or 8 divisions. Use the cross through the canvas center and the grid to get symmetrical, evenly spaced setups fast. You can also choose whether the grid appears in the saved image. Save by name and pick up where you left off Save your work on the device under a name and reopen it any time from the list. Work in progress is saved automatically so you can resume next time. Export and share as an image Your finished chart is rendered to a high-resolution PNG and saved to your device Photos or gallery, ready to send by message or email. Included instrument symbols (partial list) - Basic shapes: cross mark; circle (medium, small, with text); square; rectangle, including a free-resizable one; text label - Music stand, conductor podium, conductor, microphone - Percussion: timpani (2 to 5), bass drum, snare drum, cymbals (suspended, crash, pair), drum kit, congas and bongos, toms, marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, glockenspiel, chimes, gong - Keyboard and strings: grand piano, harp Any symbol can carry text to show a name or a part. Good to know - Built for concert music, with instrument-specific symbols such as timpani and marimba, rather than the generic shapes in most stage-plot apps - Core editing works offline, so you can use it in rehearsal rooms and venues without a connection - Free, with no in-app purchases - Japanese and English, following your device language; other languages show English - Optimized for both phones and tablets Notes - Your data is stored on the device only. There is no cloud sync, account, or collaboration. - Export is a PNG image only. There is no PDF export. - This app shows ads. - The camera is used only when you take a background photo, and it is optional.

Your guide through the circles. Virgil puts the routing matrix for your Dante-enabled audio network on your iPhone or iPad. Walk the room, stand at FOH or backstage, and patch, check and adjust devices without a laptop or extra hardware. PATCH FROM A GRID YOU ALREADY KNOW • Transmitters across the top, receivers down the side. Press and hold where they meet to patch or unpatch, so a stray tap never changes your show. • Finger-sized boxes, a crosshair that lights up the row and column you're touching, a filling ring while you hold, and haptic confirmation on iPhone. • Tap the + where two devices meet to open both, or hold it to patch 1:1 in one move (channel 1→1, 2→2…). • Expand or collapse everything in one tap. • Pinch to zoom out over a big system, search to filter by device name. • Green means connected. Amber and red flag trouble, with the reason. • Stays in sync: when someone patches from Dante Controller, Virgil updates on its own. • Clock and Events lights in the corner: green means all good. Tap Clock for every device's clock status, or Events for a log of what changed since you opened the app. DEVICE CONTROL Long-press any device for its info and settings: • Model and IP, identify (flash the LEDs to find the box in the rack) • Rename devices and channels, or reset them to factory names • Manufacturer, firmware, sample rate and bit depth • Latency • Analog input and output levels on AVIO adapters • Clock role and sync status, plus preferred leader • Reboot, with confirmation PRESETS • Save the routing for a show and recall it later. Virgil shows exactly what will change before it touches anything. BUILT FOR THE WORK • Talks directly to devices on your local network. No account, no cloud, no ads, no tracking. • Finds devices quickly and reliably over multicast, with a clear message if your network blocks it. • Remembers your devices, and Refresh scans the network for them when Wi-Fi blocks discovery. • Handles busy Wi-Fi gracefully and tells you when the network drops a reply instead of hanging. • Keeps the screen awake while you work (switchable). • Tells you what to check when no devices show up. • iPhone and iPad, portrait or landscape, iOS 17 and newer. • Works with VoiceOver: every box and header is described, double-tap-and-hold patches, and every action is on the Actions rotor. GOOD TO KNOW • Your iPhone or iPad must be on the same network as the Dante primary interfaces, and Virgil needs Local Network access (iOS asks the first time). • Supports both the classic and newer (ARC 2.8.15) Dante control protocols. • Devices enrolled in Dante Domain Manager aren't supported. Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Virgil at none against Layout 4 Band's shown. Virgil also leads on update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 24 months). Layout 4 Band's advantage is iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
