This app will help you solve English crosswords and other similar word games. The application uses the letters you already know to find a list of possible answers. It has many advantages compared to similar applications: 1) Contains many thousands of Proper Nouns, including full names, professions, nationality, date of birth and death for about 60,000 famous people, plus around 26,000 places, i.e. countries, cities, rivers, mountains etc. It also knows the names and other data of 90,000 popular movies, books, comics, bands, songs, albums, works of art, deities and fictional characters. These proper nouns are essential for solving general knowledge clues, which can make up to 20-25% of crossword clues. These clues are the type that you either know them or you don't, i.e. difficult to just guess, so if you do not know a particular person you are usually stuck 2) Provides filters to reduce the list of possible answers. This is essential when only a few letters are known. For example, you can filter out rarely used words. 3) Choose the language of the word list, from a large range of downloadable dictionaries. 36 languages are currently available (see below) 4) Contains 5 different modes for help solving Crosswords, Anagrams, Synonyms, Codewords and Cryptic Crosswords. Codeword mode allows the user to specify which letters are already known (and hence not considered for the unknown letters), and which unknown letters are the same (i.e have the same Codeword number). Cryptic mode contains extra help with many examples 5) Solves "two word" answers. This is very useful in combination with first and last names of famous people. It also finds "two word" anagrams 6) View answers in multiple columns. Optimized use of screen space. Takes full advantage of size of tablet 7) Can be played in portrait or landscape mode. Just rotate your device and the display adjusts automatically 8) The dictionary also contains some foreign language words. These are often found in some crosswords. Foreign words are English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Latin 9) Contains about 150,000 synonyms, using the built-in thesaurus, to help find the solution from the clue. All of these features are available without an internet connection, and are rarely found in similar applications. Other features unique to this app: - Lightning fast search engine. No search button needed as possible matches are displayed instantly as you type - Comprehensive list of 300,000+ normal words, split into common and rare lists to help you find the right match - View detailed word definition of the possible answers (internet connection required) - Link to the wiki page for famous people, places, films, books etc. (internet connection required) - App can be downloaded onto an SD card The following dictionaries are supported: English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Polish, Hungarian, Czech, Russian, Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Greek, Indonesian, Romanian, Serbian, Serbo-Croatian, Slovak, Slovene, Turkish, Ukrainian, Afrikaans, Albanian, Azeri, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Catalan, Galician, Tagalog

The fish is manini. Convict tang is what it says in the book. Humuhumu leads with the name people here actually use, and puts the Hawaiian name underneath when it's a different word. Sometimes that name is Hawaiian, sometimes it's menpachi or onaga or nabeta. Either way it's what you'd say out loud. There are 100 fish in here, the ones you actually run into: manini, 'oama, uhu, weke, kūmū, pāpio, ulua, 'ōmilu, moi, 'ō'io, 'ama'ama, āholehole, akule, 'ōpelu, ahi, aku, ono, mahimahi, uku, 'ōpakapaka, onaga, menpachi, nabeta, kahala, kala, kole, roi, ta'ape, honu, manō, and the humuhumunukunukuāpua'a it's named after. Each one has a page written for somebody holding the fish: where you'd see it, how it's caught, whether people eat it and how, what it gets called as it grows, and what it tends to get mixed up with. Size limits and closed seasons are in there too, with the date they were checked. SEARCH Type manini, convict tang or Acanthurus triostegus and you'll get manini. Type menpachi or 'ū'ū and you'll get menpachi. Hawaiian, Japanese, English or scientific, it all ends up at the same fish, and you never have to get the 'okina right. LEARN Study runs twenty questions a round, and if you miss one it'll tell you what you were looking at. The wrong answers come from the same family as the right one, since telling manini from ahi doesn't teach you much, and telling manini from mai'i'i is the part that's actually hard. If you want to see where you're at, there's a test of 40 fish pulled at random from the 100. It times you, and that's the score that shows up on the leaderboard. NO SIGNAL NEEDED Everything's already in the app, so nothing has to load. NOTHING TO SIGN UP FOR No account and no username. You can add a name if you want to be on the leaderboard, or an email if you'd like your progress back on a new phone. Both are optional, and you can delete either one whenever. WHERE THE NAMES COME FROM Pukui and Elbert for the Hawaiian names, the Division of Aquatic Resources species list, the Hawaii Seafood Council for market names, and DAR for the rules. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons and are credited on the page. Free, no ads, nothing locked.
