SPEAKall! Lite™ is an evidence-based communication app for the Apple iPhone. It has been designed to introduce augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) in autism spectrum disorder and/or developmental speech and language disorders. The design follows the original SPEAKall! AAC app for the iPad. This application has been developed to help children and adults with little to no functional speech acquire an initial symbol vocabulary and learn the process of constructing sentences. The purpose of SPEAKall! Lite is to provide a readily available communication tool for individuals and their caretakers. Because many families affected by autism or developmental disability may not have immediate access to an iPad, but may already possess an iPhone, SPEAKall! Lite can be an instantly available solution to establish basic but crucial communication skills. Once SPEAKall! Lite has been used successfully, the transition to SPEAKall! on an iPad is easy and uncomplicated. The SPEAKall! Lite interface provides a versatile learning platform that goes beyond simple symbol activations for voice output by actively engaging the learner in a variety of communication related activities. It can be used to target therapeutic goals including ● Functional communication ● Natural speech production ● Emerging language ● Social interaction and social-pragmatic skills The interface is easily customizable to each learner’s specific needs and can grow with the learner as needs and capabilities expand. Research and development of the SPEAK*** technologies have been sponsored by the National Institutes of Health – National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). SPEAKall! has received strong recognition in the AAC industry as documented by prestigious awards including: ● 2025 European Academy of Childhood Disability (EACD) Technology & Innovation Award, First Place ● 2018 Anna Kennedy Online Autism Charity, Autism Hero Award – First Place, Entrepreneurial Category ● 2017 Milken Family Foundation Grand Prize and Overall Winner, Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition ● 2017 ChanceLight Behavioral Health and Education Prize, Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition ● 2017 Edison Innovation Award – Gold, Language Learning Products ● 2016 R&D 100 Award (“Oscars of Invention”) ● 2016 Indiana Small Business Innovation Research Company Award ● 2016 State of Indiana Certificate of Recognition ● 2015 Autism Society of America Outstanding Research of the Year Award ● 2015 Best of Education Tech Award at TechPoint Mira Awards ● 2014 First Place Award, International Business Pitch Challenge of the German Academic International Network – Transatlantic Entrepreneurship Network ● 2013 Purdue Focus Award for Disability Accessibility Thank you for your continued support and please continue to send us your feedback and ideas! Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for SPEAKall! Lite against 5.0 for Arjie. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SPEAKall! Lite has 5 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
