Fayelio is a calm, local-first reader for your own books: EPUB, PDF, MOBI, AZW3, FB2, CBZ comics and TXT. Your library lives on your phone, your highlights stay with you, and nothing is sent to us. READ THE WAY YOU WANT ⢠A true two-page spread on foldable iPhones: the pages split exactly on the fold, like an open book. ⢠Comfortable single-page reading on every iPhone, with your choice of font, size, spacing, margins and themes (light, dark, sepia or automatic). ⢠Reading position, bookmarks and highlights are remembered for every book. ⢠Manga and other right-to-left books turn the other way, including the two-page spread. ⢠Gestures: tap an edge to turn, double-tap it to jump a chapter, slide along the left edge for volume or the right for brightness, and pull the page down to close the book. Each one can be turned off in Settings. ⢠A table of contents on each book, and inside the reader, so you can jump back and forth between chapters. ⢠Highlights in five colors, with your own notes on any highlight, all collected in one place. Tap a highlight to change its color or remove it. With Pro, export your highlights and notes as a Markdown file for one book or your whole library. ⢠Reading themes (Light, Dark, Sepia and Auto are free; Paper, Night, Mint and High Contrast are Pro) and a choice of typefaces (six more with Pro). READ FOR ME ⢠Have any chapter read aloud with natural voices, even with the screen locked. ⢠The sentence being read is highlighted or underlined in the color you pick, and the page turns with the voice. ⢠Start where you stopped, from the page you're on, or from any selected text. ⢠Choose the reading speed. Books in other languages are read with a matching voice. ⢠Free includes 10 hours of Read for Me. Pro adds unlimited listening and a sleep timer. SUMMARIES (FREE) AND TRANSLATION (Fayelio Pro) ⢠Summarize a chapter, or a whole book, on your phone with Apple Intelligence. It's free and nothing leaves your device. With Pro you can instead use your own Claude or OpenAI key. ⢠Translate any chapter into the language you choose, paragraph by paragraph, offline. ⢠Scanned PDFs and comic pages are read with on-device text recognition, so they can be summarized and read aloud too. FREE BOOKS, ANYWHERE ⢠Browse and download free books from Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks inside the app, plus a small shelf of classic newspaper comics published before 1931, hosted by the Internet Archive. ⢠Add your own DRM-free EPUB, PDF, MOBI, AZW3, FB2, CBZ and TXT files, or share one from Files, Safari, Mail or any app straight into Fayelio. Everything works the same in every format: two-page spreads, highlights, search, Read for Me, translation and summaries. Books protected by DRM, such as Amazon or Kobo purchases, won't open. Fayelio is a reader: it doesn't provide books other than the free public-domain libraries in Discover. ⢠A Now Reading widget for your Home Screen and Lock Screen shows your current book and progress. PRIVATE BY DESIGN ⢠No account and no tracking. ⢠Your reading position, bookmarks and highlights sync between your own Apple devices through your iCloud, if you turn it on in Settings > Sync. Fayelio Pro is a one-time purchase (no subscription) that unlocks translation, unlimited Read for Me with a sleep timer, four more reading themes and six more typefaces, exporting highlights and notes, searching inside a book, Ask about this book, your own AI (Claude or OpenAI) for summaries and more than twenty extra app icons, including holiday icons. Everything else is free, including three app icons (Classic, Paper and Noir).

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: eBookReader at none against Fayelio's 1. eBookReader also leads on iOS requirement (16.0 vs 18.0). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.
