- A dark roguelike by the designer of Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride. - Procedurally generated caves make every expedition different. - Explore at your own pace. Dive fast and aggressive or explore slowly, dropping markers along the way. - Soundtrack by award-winning composer Cedar Jones (Jetpack Joyride and more). - An atmospheric deep sea adventure with lovecraftian vibes. When they built the floating cities, they had no idea an insidious threat lurked deep below... Feed the Deep is a compulsive lovecraftian roguelike inspired by the likes of Dome Keeper and Spelunky. Dive into an ever-changing system of undersea caves. Collect resources that can be traded for upgrades and items. Explore ever deeper, managing dark spaces, limited oxygen, and hostile wildlife, and complete your mission to Feed the Deep. Feed the Deep was built almost entirely by me, Luke Muscat. Back in the Old Times I was creator of Jetpack Joyride and Fruit Ninja. A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to try the ultimate game dev challenge and make a game completely solo.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is update cadence: Feed the Deep at daily against BALL x PIT's weekly. BALL x PIT's advantage is rating (4.9 vs 4.7) and ratings volume (3.6K vs 385). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. BALL x PIT sells 2 one-off in-app purchases and Feed the Deep sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

BALL x PIT holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: BALL x PIT has 3.6K ratings behind it against 385, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 70% of BALL x PIT's written reviews are positive against 73% of Feed the Deep's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

BALL x PIT ships an update weekly, Feed the Deep daily. The most recent releases landed on September 23, 2026 and September 24, 2026 respectively.
