Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: SunkissTimer at free with in-app purchases against Sunny Pal's subscription. SunkissTimer also leads on review sentiment (52% vs 21%) and update cadence (every 10 days vs every 4 weeks). Sunny Pal's advantage is rating (4.9 vs 4.3) and ads (none vs shown). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. SunkissTimer sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days and Sunny Pal sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Sunny Pal holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sunny Pal has 1.5K ratings behind it against 75, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 52% of SunkissTimer's written reviews are positive against 21% of Sunny Pal's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
SunkissTimer ships an update every 10 days, Sunny Pal every 4 weeks. Both last shipped on October 30, 2026.
