About

Trapbait

Level 1 is completely honest. Solid floor, visible spikes, a door where the door should be. You will clear it in about twenty seconds and feel good about yourself. That was the setup. Trapbait is a 2D trap platformer built on a single idea: the level looks fair, and then it isn't. Floors vanish halfway through your jump. Spikes drop from a ceiling you already walked under. The exit door waits until you're close enough to touch it, and then it leaves. Sometimes there are two doors and one of them is red. Controls are a floating analog stick and a jump button: tight, precise, and completely deterministic. The traps are the difficulty. The buttons never are. It is a hard game and an unfair one on purpose. If you have ever rage quit a troll platformer, you know the shape of it: the jump is not difficult to execute, it is difficult to believe. Nothing here is impossible, and every trap is survivable the second time, because the level lies the same way every single attempt. When the campaign gets personal, there are other ways to die. THE CHASE. A demon with a stone axe is right behind you, and it does not stop. An endless runner through trap corridors: keep moving, read the floor, don't let it close the gap. Caught, it eats you, and is rude about it afterwards. ENDLESS SPIRE. Climb a tower that does not end while the water rises underneath you, a little faster at every flag. RACE YOUR GHOST. Run a cleared level against your own best and your last try, or against Smug, who has done it before and wants you to know. After a hard win, watch every try run at once, falling one by one until one gets through. CHARACTER FIGHT. Fight every character you earn, each with a power of its own: the Ghost fades, Gold dashes, the Door drops on your head. Beat them all and the demon is waiting. SIDE QUESTS. Catch an exit that runs away, outrun a floor that falls in behind you, chase down an angel before it turns. Each stage pays Anchors the first time you clear it. It plays offline. No wifi, no signal, no connection of any kind. On a plane, on a bus, in a lift with one bar. New levels and worlds land regularly, and the map has no end screen. However far you get, there is one more. It's free and ad-supported. Checkpoints appear mid-level at no cost. To make one permanent, so deaths send you back there even after closing the app, you spend an Anchor. Anchors come free every day, from an optional video, or from the store if you would rather not wait. Skip every video, buy nothing, and you can still finish the entire game. If the ads between levels get on your nerves, you can remove them once, for good. FEATURES โ€ข Handmade trap levels on a map that keeps growing: meadows, rust works, badlands, rooms in the dark, frozen summits, towers that go up, storms. New worlds keep arriving. โ€ข Disappearing floors, ceiling spikes, phantom walls, and a door with commitment issues โ€ข A red door that looks exactly like the exit, in the exact place the exit should be, and is not the exit โ€ข More than the map: character fights, side quests, a demon chase, a climb against rising water, ghost races and a daily run โ€ข Precision platforming with no random deaths. The trap that killed you will kill you the same way next time, which is how you beat it. โ€ข Free mid-level checkpoints; make one permanent with an optional Anchor โ€ข Buy nothing and still finish it all. The store sells removing ads, packs of Anchors, a death that shatters or leaves a headstone, a trail of gold coins, and a tip for the developer. โ€ข Instant deaths, instant restarts. Fail at speed. โ€ข Rising water, rolling balls, ice, conveyors, bounce pads, wind, lightning and inverted gravity โ€ข Angels that hand you Anchors, right up until they don't โ€ข Characters you earn by playing, then fight, and one you earn by playing badly: it costs five thousand deaths. โ€ข Cloud save carries your progress to your next phone. Learn the trap. Outrun the demon. Die to the next one.
