About

Fretboard Matrix

Features

Fretboard Matrix requires Fretboard Matrix Pro to use. Pro is available as a monthly or annual subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. The annual plan includes a 7-day free trial. Every feature described below is part of Pro. Most guitarists practice the same handful of shapes for years. Fretboard Matrix exists to break that loop. Choose a key, a scale, and how many notes per string to use, and it finds melodic shapes that fit those constraints anywhere on the neck. Not scale diagrams to memorise. Playable melodic shapes you have probably never put your fingers on. HOW IT WORKS Set the root and the scale, then set two constraints: how many notes fall on each string, and the widest fret span your hand can reach. Press Generate. Every shape it returns is playable within those limits, so nothing it gives you is a stretch you cannot make. Skip a string entirely, mix two notes on one string with three on the next, or widen the span and watch shapes appear that were impossible a moment ago. EIGHTEEN SCALES Major and Major Pentatonic. Minor, Locrian, and Dominant sharp 9 Pentatonics. Harmonic Minor, Melodic Minor, Harmonic Major, and Melodic Minor sharp 5. Augmented, Whole Tone, and both Diminished scales. Messiaen modes 3 through 7. All scales can be viewed in all 12 keys, with a full 12- or 24-fret mapping of the scale across the guitar neck. PRACTICE IT Loop a shape at any tempo with a metronome. Or move it: - Diatonic: the same shape walked up through every degree of the key - Cycle of fifths: the same shape through all twelve keys - Positions: the same idea rebuilt in different regions of the neck The neck follows along note by note as it plays, and the view moves to the next position just before it sounds, so you are reading ahead instead of catching up. READ WHAT YOU PLAY Every shape comes with standard notation and tablature, side by side, highlighted in time with the audio. KEEP WHAT YOU FIND Save any shape to your library with a name and come back to it later. ON EVERY SCREEN YOU OWN One purchase covers iPhone, iPad, and Mac. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account. No analytics. No tracking. No network requests at all. Everything you make stays on your device. Built for guitarists who would like a practice tool to explore new shapes, scales, and possibilities.
