Can you beat a chimp? Span is a 4-minute attention span test built on classic lab tasks: reaction time, a go/no-go focus stream, symbol–digit speed and the chimp memory test. Your score is free. See where you rank against people your age, share your card, then play 21 games with 30 levels each and track every best. For fun and general wellness. Span is not a medical test and can't diagnose anything. THE TEST: 4 ROUNDS, ABOUT 4 MINUTES • Spark: tap when the circle lights up. Your reaction time in milliseconds (shown, not scored). • Lock-in: numbers flash for about 60 seconds. Tap for every number except 3. • Cipher: turn symbols into numbers, as many as you can in 45 seconds. • Chimp: numbers appear on a grid. Tap 1 and the rest hide. Tap them in order from memory. YOUR SPAN AGE • An age you can lower: it starts at your age group and moves younger or older by how you play against people your age. A game score, not a medical test. • Under it, your Span Score from 1 to 99: the share of people your age we expect you to beat, on provisional age norms, with an honest ± range. • Your archetype and three brag receipts (longest Lock-in streak, numbers held in Chimp, reaction time) on a card sized for stories. • How it works is free to read, with the studies behind it. THE CHIMP TEST In 2007, a young chimpanzee named Ayumu recalled five numbers flashed for 210 ms about 80% of the time; university students tested alongside him managed about 40%. Ayumu had many practice sessions, the students none. Take the 5-round dare. (Inoue & Matsuzawa, Current Biology, 2007) DAILY SPAN: FREE, ABOUT A MINUTE • One challenge a day, the same for everyone: the 60-second chimp climb or Ayumu 210, five flashes at 210 ms each. • One counted run a day. Share your grid without giving the board away. • A forgiving streak: rest days are banked, and you can repair a broken streak once every 30 days. 21 GAMES, 30 LEVELS EACH • Earn 1 to 3 stars a level. Stars earn each game's mastery badges, Bronze to Diamond. • Playing earns XP toward your rank, Rookie to Legend. Your skill map shows Speed, Memory, Focus, Logic and Spatial. • Every 5th level is a boss that takes 2 stars, and each game changes as you climb. PLAY TOGETHER • Duel, Tempo Duel, Shade Race and Number Race: two players, one phone. Memory Pairs for up to 4. • Play any level with friends on one phone, or send a link: your friend plays the same board. FREE, FOREVER • The chimp test, the 4-minute test, your Span Age and Span Score, archetype and share card • A free retest the day after your first test, then every 7 days • Daily Span, your streak and your personal bests • XP, rank, skill map and mastery badges • Play together, Chimp at all 30 levels, and every other game up to level 5 SPAN PLUS • Your 4-week plan: after your test, Span builds 4 weeks around your weakest of focus, speed and memory. Three games a day, about 5 minutes, each at your next level. Each week ends with an optional check-in retest; week 4 is the retest week. • All 30 levels of every game • Your full breakdown: focus, speed and memory, each ranked for your age, with your weakest area named • Your trend: every check and every Daily Span on one chart • A retest once a day NO ADS. NO ACCOUNT. NO TRACKING. Nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to. Reminders are optional. Span Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription — Annual ($39.99/year, with a 14-day free trial for new subscribers) or Weekly ($4.99/week). Prices vary by country. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase (after the free trial, if any).
