Wyperfeld vs Willunga Basin Trail

NOTE: This app requires an additional download of 30 MB of images & text after installation. The Wyperfeld App was developed by the Friends of Wyperfeld National Park to help visitors plan and enjoy a trip to the park. The App provides information and maps about how to get there; it’s history, camping areas, self-guided walks, 2-wheel and 4-wheel driving roads and tracks and areas suitable for riding bikes. Over 160 photos and descriptions of the plants and animals you might see during your stay are also included. Due to the very limited internet coverage in the park the App has been designed to work off-line. It is recommended that you download the App prior to visiting.

NOTE: The first opening of the App will require a one-off 80 MB transfer of text and images. The Willunga Basin Trail is a 130 km walking trail, of 11 Sections of moderate to hard standard. It crosses the undulating farmland and vineyards of the McLaren Vale Wine Region, ascends and descends the Ranges four times and travels along the coast as it encircles the Basin. The route gives great variety of scenery and visits many of the small settlements as well as the coastal suburbs. It crosses the Aldinga Conservation Park, the Onkaparinga River National Park and parts of the pine and native forests of Kuitpo. The Trail is almost totally on public land and has been built on back roads, tracks, paths, unmade road reserves, roadside verges and beaches. You can follow your progress on the maps by enabling the GPS blue dot which indicates your present position.The feature is enabled by tapping the GPS icon at the top of the app and selecting “Track”. In addition, you can also enable the “Alert” facility, so that you are given an audio alert when approaching a Point of Interest. The alerts work even when the phone screen is off and the phone is in your pocket. i.e. in background mode.
