Kantonese brings Cantonese into your everyday life, without the effort. A widget on your lock screen shows a word, its Jyutping pronunciation and its meaning. You walk past it ten times a day: memorisation happens through exposure, not through drilling. When you do want to study actively, the spaced repetition engine shows you each card right when you are about to forget it. • 125,000-entry dictionary, fully offline • Lock screen and home screen widgets • Jyutping with colour-coded tones • Decks built from real usage frequency, plus a spoken Cantonese deck • No account, no ads, no data collected Free forever: the widget, one deck and 10 new cards a day. Kanto+ is a subscription that unlocks unlimited decks, up to 30 new cards a day, detailed statistics and extra widget styles. It comes with a 7-day free trial and is available monthly or yearly — prices are shown in the app in your local currency. Verdict
Karacter and Kantonese are too close to call on the numbers: across 5 compared parameters — price, ads, in-app purchases and device support among them — neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Karacter sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and Kantonese sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
