XC QuickScore

XC QuickScore removes guesswork from cross country meet scoring--fast, intuitive, and accurate...and on your phone. ...know fast, first. Designed for coaches, parents, runners and fans, XC QuickScore gives users three different options for tracking XC meet scores: 1) One team vs. the field scoring 2) Select teams vs. the remaining field 3) Whole field individual team scoring (up to 21 teams). Key Features: -Fast race scoring set up for 1-team-vs-field option (free!) -3 x split/score options plus finish line results -Support for multiple team set up and scoring -Large-field team tap grid for meets with over 8 teams -Real-time scoring with tiebreaker logic -Adjust finish order with Results Review -Save meets and races for later access -Share team results from app -Customize team names, abbreviations and colors -Copy race team setup from existing races -Unattached (non-scoring) runner tracking option XC QuickScore is built as a tool to empower coaches, parents and runners with real-time race score information. You can track just your team's score, scores for a handful of teams, or go all in and track everyone's scores up to 21 teams (for now...). Upgrade to pro to unlock Multi-team tracking, results reviewing, and saved results. For Scoring Option #1 (One Team vs. Field), the app has a quick, already set up screen that allows users to tap one of two buttons: Your Team and Vs. Teams. As runners pass (3 optional splits and finish line), users simply tap one of the two respective buttons to estimate the team's score at the split point or finish line. Quick, easy, powerful. Scoring Option #2 (Select Teams vs. Field) allows the user to add a tap button for specific teams they wish to track along with a group tap button option for everyone else. A great example use case for this is when you believe a race will likely come down to 2 or 3 teams and you don't want to worry about tapping separate buttons for each and every team. Like option #1, a user would tap the button for the focus teams and another button for everyone else (or also add an unattached button for no-team runners, if needed). This would then track the scores for the focus teams only and treat all other team runners as displacers (and ignore UNAT if needed). Scoring option #3 (whole field) allows a user to create and add up to 21 teams to a race and track each team's score individually like a traditional race scoring app. Including an unattached-runner button is also an option. I capped it at 21 because anything this made the interface a little crowded and unmanageable...but if the app takes, we could always make the capability to handle a larger field possible. The only known scoring shortfall is in situations where a race has teams with more runners participating in the race than are allowed to score and displace (for example, X school has 15 runners in the race but only 5 score and 2 displace/push) and an exhibition runner finishes ahead of an official team runner. The app currently assumes your top 7 (for example) finishers are your team's top scorers/displacers. This could be managed, however, through the Race Review function. Unattached (no team) runners have their own 'button' and are automatically removed from team scoring if their tap button is utilized). Also, note that app does allow for non-traditional team scoring options...so you can adjust by race the number of runners who score and those that displace/push.

Verdict
Clocked Timer and XC QuickScore are too close to call on the numbers: across 5 compared parameters — price, ads, in-app purchases and device support among them — neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Clocked Timer sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and XC QuickScore sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
