Pick a hero. Fable proposes the whole story - where it happens, what goes wrong, how it turns. Change anything that isn't right, and it's written and illustrated in minutes. Tap Listen and it's narrated in seconds. Creating stories is free. Unlimited. No trial, no catch. NEW: A COMMUNITY FEED WORTH BROWSING The Community Feed is now arranged on shelves: Story of the Week, New This Week, Popular Right Now, Quick Listens, and shelves by mood and genre, from Cozy Bedtime Listens to Mysteries. Shelves follow the age range you choose. Open a story and More Like This shows you what to listen to next. IF YOU BUILD WORLDS Cast a hero, drop them somewhere impossible, and hand them a problem worth solving. Setting, twist and trouble all arrive as suggestions you can overwrite. Three-chapter journeys let a character carry a desire, a flaw and a love across a real arc. Search your whole cast by name or trait - build forty heroes and actually reuse them. IF YOU WRITE TO THINK Some stories are how you work something out. Start from a blank page with Craft Your Own: Fable asks, you answer, and the story is yours line by line. Leave mid-draft and come back - unfinished stories wait for you on the Still Writing shelf. HOW A STORY GETS MADE 1. Pick a hero. Create opens on your cast - or choose one of ours. 2. Read the proposal: the setting, what's strange about it, how your hero feels, the trouble, the twist. 3. Change any option. Change one and everything after it is proposed again. 4. Choose one story, or a three-chapter journey. 5. Write it. It arrives illustrated. Tap Listen to hear it narrated. A NEW HERO IN TWO QUESTIONS Answer two things - or tap Surprise Me - and Fable returns three finished heroes, each with a name, a personality, a skill and a portrait. Keep the one you want. Want to answer all seven questions yourself? That door is still open. CAST & CREATE Browse the Character Library and cast a ready-made hero straight into your story, each with their own quirks, strengths and flaws. Free heroes are yours to use any time. Premium heroes cost 1 token each time you cast them. WHAT HAPPENS TO A STORY YOU SHARE Publish to the Community Feed and readers can find it on the shelves within about a minute. Turn on notifications and we'll tell you when it gets its first listener, and again as the listens add up. The stories that stop us become illustrated shorts on our YouTube channel and narrated episodes on our podcast, and some characters become heroes others can cast. Story of the Week puts one in front of everyone, and we tell the person who wrote it. IMAGINE IT. HEAR IT. SHARE IT. - Stories start playing in seconds and keep going when you lock your phone - 75+ expressive voices (subscriber feature): narration that sounds human - Share with friends or to the Community Feed, free, or keep it on your private bookshelf - Every story you hear saves to My Library to replay free, even offline - Daily streaks earn bonus Trail Tokens HOW TOKENS WORK Writing is always free and always unlimited, and so is sharing. Tokens are only for extras: hearing a story narrated (2 tokens, then replays are free), listening to a Community Feed story (2 tokens, then it's yours), unlocking a journey's next chapter early, keeping an extra hero candidate, and casting a premium character. New adventurers start with 3 free tokens. One-time token bundles and monthly subscriptions are both available - subscriptions include the full expressive voice library. Horror Hours is a horror story app built for the one time you actually listen to them — in the dark, in bed, with the lights off. Every story is narrated and cut into chapters, so you always know where you are and can pick up exactly where you drifted off. Hundreds of tales, from creeping small-town dread to cosmic deep-water horror, read by voices that know how to hold a room at 2 a.m. THE PART no other horror app gets right: sleep. Turn on Sleep Mode and the whole app changes. Stories are mastered flat — no sudden loud stings, no jump scares to yank you awake. The screen dims and warms so the last thing you see isn't a wall of blue light. Set a timer and the story fades gently into a bed of ambience instead of snapping to silence. Build the room you want to fall asleep in. Layer rain on a tin roof, a distant thunderstorm, a fire, wind across a field — as many as you like, each at its own level, all running under the story at once. Speed only ever touches the narration; the rain never speeds up. "Continue the night" keeps you going. When a story ends and you're still awake, the next one queues itself by mood and category, shorter as the night gets later, sleep-safe when you're in Sleep Mode. A single tap can turn one story into eight hours. - Hundreds of narrated horror stories, chapterized and searchable - Sleep-safe masters: no jump scares, no ad breaks, ever - Sleep timer with a gentle fade, and a 9-hour all-night session - Layered ambience: rain, thunder, fire, forest, wind — stack them - Continue the night: automatic, mood-matched autoplay - Download for offline, adjustable speed, CarPlay and lock-screen controls - A private scorecard for the nights you keep — no leaderboards, no sharing Start with a 3-night free trial. Then it's $49.99/year ($0.96/week). Cancel anytime. Sleep is optional. We just made it possible. Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Horror Hours at 100% against Fable's Adventures's 43%. Horror Hours also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.2) and update cadence (every 2 days vs every 4 days). Fable's Adventures's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and ratings volume (27 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Fable's Adventures sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month and Horror Hours sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $49.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Horror Hours holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Fable's Adventures has 27 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 43% of Fable's Adventures's written reviews are positive against 100% of Horror Hours's.
Fable's Adventures ships an update every 4 days, Horror Hours every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 9, 2026 respectively.
