CurbToCar helps blind and low-vision users quickly and confidently find their rides using only their phone’s camera. Whether you’re meeting a rideshare, or a friend’s car, CurbToCar removes the guesswork between the curb and the car. CurbToCar was built for the last 10 feet. With smart computer vision and sound guidance, getting to your ride becomes faster, safer, and more independent. Co-designed with Eric Santana + co-designers through the MIT Assistive Tech Club, CurbToCar was built from the ground up around accessibility, clarity, and independence. How it works Point your phone toward the pick-up area and CurbToCar uses object detection and real-time tracking to locate vehicles. With continuous audio feedback and distance estimation, the app guides you toward your car, helping you navigate without relying on sighted assistance. Our favorite thing is user feedback, so please feel free to reach out at any time with questions or suggestions!

About

Start Navigating

Indoor routes can be difficult to remember, especially inside unfamiliar buildings where traditional maps offer little help. A turn that seemed obvious on the way in can be easy to miss when it is time to return. Start Navigating lets you record an indoor walking route as you travel it, then open the saved route later for spoken guidance. Save the path once, add useful named spots along the way, and return to it whenever you need it. Record Once. Follow It Again. Key Features - Route Recording Record an indoor walking route at your normal pace and save it with a name for later. - Spoken Turn Guidance Hear clear instructions a few steps before each turn, giving you time to prepare as you follow the route. - Forward and Reverse Routes Follow a route in the direction you recorded it or reverse it to return from the destination to the starting point. - Named Spots Add names for useful places and landmarks while recording. Adjust marker names and alert distances later. - Places and Route Filters Organize routes by building, place, floor, or area. Filter saved routes by location and date to find the route you need. - Flexible Guidance Feedback Choose your preferred speaking voice and speed. Use spoken cues, navigation sounds, haptic feedback, or a combination that works for you. - iCloud Sync Keep saved routes available across your devices through iCloud. - Shared Routes Beta Browse routes shared by other users and add a separate copy to your personal route collection. Shared routes are created by users, so always confirm that a route makes sense for your surroundings. - Core Guidance Without Internet Record and follow your personal routes without an internet connection. Shared Routes Beta and iCloud sync require a connection. Important Safety Information Start Navigating helps you retrace routes you have already walked and recorded. It cannot detect obstacles, stairs, drop offs, doors, furniture that has moved, or other conditions that may have changed. Continue using your usual navigation tools, mobility skills, and awareness. Start Navigating is designed to work alongside them, not replace them. If something feels wrong or you become disoriented, stop and check your surroundings.
