nanoBeard runs four small language models, trained completely from scratch, entirely on your phone. No internet, no servers, no accounts, nothing leaves your device. Each model has its own size and personality, from a tiny 14M rambler to a sharper 360M. Pick one, tweak the precision, and chat. Everything happens on-device, so it works in airplane mode. Fair warning: these are deliberately tiny models, so the pirate banter is gloriously unhinged. That's the point, it's a playful demo of how far on-device AI can be pushed on hardware you already own. A passion project, made for fun. Hope it brings you a laugh.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Google AI Edge Gallery at 4.1 against NanoBeard's 3.3. Google AI Edge Gallery also leads on ratings volume (166 vs 4). NanoBeard's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 60%) and update cadence (daily vs fortnightly). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Google AI Edge Gallery holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Google AI Edge Gallery has 166 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Google AI Edge Gallery's written reviews are positive against 100% of NanoBeard's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Google AI Edge Gallery ships an update fortnightly, NanoBeard daily. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and November 5, 2026 respectively.
