Cooking Ex Optimizer
Read full descriptionHide full description
Cooking Ex Optimizer is a kitchen companion built around live temperature prediction. Track every temperature at once - your steak, your oven, your sous vide bath - and the app projects when each one will reach its target. No more guessing. Tap Set to log a temperature. Tap Finish to lock in a target. Watch the countdown adjust as new readings come in. The chart shows your readings and the projected curve, with a green indicator that moves along the projection so you always know where things stand right now. Multiple tracks side by side Each track has its own name, target, and timeline. A summary strip under the page selector shows live readings and countdowns for every track at once - even when you are focused on a different one - so you can keep tabs on everything from a single screen. Tap a pill to switch. Smart projection The app fits a curve through your readings and extrapolates. The countdown ticks down in real time as new data refines the model. Once a target is reached, the display flips to a checkmark and counts time since reached. Hands-on chart Drag across the chart to inspect any time and temperature. Pinch to zoom the time axis. Tap a reading to edit it. Use plus to extend the forecast window further into the future, minus to bring the last reading back to the center. Camera capture Point your camera at a thermometer or oven display and the app reads the digits using the device on-board OCR, then logs them automatically. Beyond cooking Cooking Ex Optimizer keeps the original Experiment Optimizer toolkit. Define variables (binary or value range), get adaptive suggestions for the next experiment to run, record outcomes, and review live model confidence with clear explanations of the likely formulas behind your data. Export and import everything as JSON for collaboration. Built for cooks, researchers, and tinkerers who want one app for measurement, prediction, and learning. Works offline. No accounts. No tracking. No subscriptions.
Cure
Read full descriptionHide full description
Cure is a home food-dehydrating companion for fruit, vegetables, and herbs. Pick a food and get its drying temperature, time, pretreatment, and yield โ every number cited to the National Center for Home Food Preservation (NCHFP / So Easy to Preserve, University of Georgia) and the Colorado State PreserveSmart program, not unverified blog folklore. Free forever: โข Per-food drying card โ temperature, time range (dehydrator and oven), and pretreatment, for grapes-to-raisins, apple rings, apricots, banana slices, tomatoes, herbs, fruit leather, and more โข Yield predictor โ enter fresh weight, get the approximate dried weight and "how many half-pint jars from this haul?" โข Doneness test โ the cut, squeeze, and fold test for each food, so you know it is actually dry, not just that the timer went off 24-hour free trial of everything else, then a one-time $4.99 unlock (Cure Pro): โข Conditioning tracker โ the 4โ10-day jar-and-stir step most home dehydrators skip, with a live day counter, an optional daily stir reminder, and the moisture-beads โ re-dry call. Skipping conditioning is the number-one cause of mold in storage. โข Storage & use-by planner โ realistic storage life by container and conditions, a use-by date, and the water-activity reason dried food keeps โข Full food library Cure is built around the part the web charts skip: the drying time is a commodity, but whether your dried food actually keeps comes down to the doneness test, conditioning, and storage โ and almost nothing covers those. Cure does, with every figure traced to a primary source. Fruit, vegetables, and herbs only. For drying meat and jerky, see our companion app Strip. Pay once. No subscription, no account, no network calls โ everything runs on-device. Cure presents NCHFP and university extension guidance for educational purposes. It is not a substitute for a thermometer or your local extension office. When in doubt, throw it out.

Verdict
The clearest difference is price: Cure at Free against Cooking Ex Optimizer's $1.99. Cure also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 9 months). Cooking Ex Optimizer's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.6 vs 17.0). On ads and device support there is nothing between them.
