Read Aloud Books, PDFs & Text Books where every character has their own voice. Narrable is an audiobook app with a catalogue of full-cast recordings, and it will read your own books too. Open Discover and start listening, or bring an EPUB or PDF and have it voiced. A full cast, not one voice Most audiobooks are one narrator doing everybody. Narrable gives each character their own voice, so dialogue sounds like people talking to each other rather than one person reading both halves. And you choose. Every book is made both ways, so you can switch between the full cast and a single narrator while you listen, mid-sentence, and it picks up exactly where you were. Your own books Import an EPUB or a PDF and Narrable reads who speaks in it, gives each character a voice, and plays you a scene before it makes the rest. Your files stay private to you. While you listen Text highlights in time with the audio, so you can follow along or put the phone down. Speed from 0.5x to 2x with the pitch held, so voices keep their character. Tap any word to start there, skip, rewind, and pick up where you left off. Books download to the phone, so listening doesn't need a connection. Over a thousand voices. Nothing is recorded in a studio, and nothing is read by a person.
Pera

Build a bookshelf worth showing off, then actually open every book on it. Most book trackers are just a catalog: they cannot open the book. Pera holds the real file, so your shelf builds itself from the real book: spine thickness pulled from word count, a foil edge when you finish it, a tap that opens straight into the page you left off. A SHELF BUILT FROM THE REAL BOOK Import PDF, EPUB, TXT and Markdown, or bring your whole library over from Goodreads in one CSV. Covers come straight from the book file when it has one, any other cover is a quick search away, and spines are sized to the book's real length. No busywork. SCAN THE SPINES YOU OWN Point your camera at a real book and its spine lands on your shelf, styled to match. For everything else, pick your wood, your wallpaper, string up fairy lights. Warm cottage light or moody dark academia, it is your shelf, not a template. TAP A SPINE, START READING Underneath the shelf is a real reader. Read the normal paginated way, or switch to one word at a time, anchored to its pivot letter so your eyes stop jumping line to line. Digital books open right where you left off, paper books get their own reading timer, and Pera tracks the time you actually spend reading. ON YOUR HOME SCREEN Put your bookcase on your home screen, so your shelf is the first thing you see when you unlock your phone. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Your shelf and your library live on your device, not on a server, and nothing about what you read ever leaves it. The one exception is a book or cover search you start yourself: the title you type goes to public book databases to find a match. Pera also collects anonymous usage analytics and crash reports to improve the app. PERA ACCESS Pera requires a Pera Access subscription to use. Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: Narrable at every 5 days against Pera's fortnightly. Pera's advantage is iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
