ErgoShift

ErgoShift is a focus timer for people whose day has a shape. You lay out a shift once — settle in, deep work, stand up and drink, whatever your day actually looks like — and then you just walk down it. Each stage knows how long it lasts. When one ends, you hear it, even with the phone locked and the screen dark. THE RAIL A shift is a line of stages with your own names, emoji and durations. Drag them into order, repeat the whole shift if it comes round again (Pro), and start. The rail shows where you are without you having to think about it. BOUNDARIES YOU ACTUALLY NOTICE The end of a stage arrives as a sound you choose, with a 3-2-1 countdown before it, and a Live Activity on the Lock Screen counts the stage down while you work. No need to keep the app on screen. (The Lock Screen card follows your stages once you sign in with Apple.) APPS THAT STAY SHUT WHILE YOU WORK Pick the apps and categories that pull you away. They are shielded during work stages and open again the moment a break begins — nothing to remember, nothing to switch off. The choice is made with Apple's own picker, and the app never learns which apps you picked. BREATHING, WHEN IT IS TOO MUCH Two minutes of paced breathing, one tap away. It stops the shift and unblocks everything first, with no confirmation and no penalty. It is free forever, in every version — a calming exercise, not medical care. MUSIC UNDER THE WORK Attach an Apple Music playlist to work stages. It starts with the work and stops when the break does. (Pro. Needs an Apple Music subscription.) ON THE HOME SCREEN Widgets show the running stage, start a shift you pick in one tap, and put the breathing a tap away. (Pro.) FREE, AND PRO As many shifts as you like, as many stages in each, app blocking, your whole history, and every stage boundary of a running shift — free forever. So is the SOS breathing itself: help is never behind a paywall. ErgoShift Pro adds repetitions above one, shifts linked inside shifts, your Apple Music playlists under work stages, and the home-screen widgets. Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, offered monthly and yearly. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase, and it renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel any time in Settings — your name — Subscriptions. Pro pays for the server that keeps your boundaries arriving while the app sleeps. Verdict
ErgoShift and Pomodoro Timer are too close to call on the numbers: across 5 compared parameters — price, ads, in-app purchases and device support among them — neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. ErgoShift sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Pomodoro Timer sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.59 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
