Shut the Box Challenge

Shut the Box is usually decided by the dice. This one is decided by what you do with them. The computer is dealt your exact throws, in your exact order. Nobody gets luckier dice — the only thing separating the two scores is how the throws were used. HOW IT WORKS Roll the dice, then close numbered tiles that add up to the throw. Keep going until a throw has no legal move. Whatever is left standing is your score, and the lower the better. Close every tile and you have shut the box: a score of zero, and rare enough to celebrate. On a full box, a throw of 7 can be played five ways — 7, 6 + 1, 5 + 2, 4 + 3 or 4 + 2 + 1. Which one you choose decides what the next throw can do. That choice is the whole game. FIVE WAYS TO PLAY • DAILY DICE — one set of dice a day, the same for everyone. One official attempt, a streak for every day in a row, and a reminder if you want one. • FRIEND BOX — play a round and send it to a friend. The first box goes as a link or a short code; after that, boxes go straight between you through iCloud, and you hear when your friend has played. They play your throws in your order and do not see your score until they have finished. • COMPUTER — Easy, Medium or Hard. It plays after you, on the same dice, and its result stays hidden until your round is over. • SOLO — just you and the box. Ask for the best move whenever you want it. • PASS THE BOX — 2–4 players on one phone, each with their own dice. The first game is free. AFTER THE ROUND Every throw is stored with the moves it offered, so the game can tell you afterwards how many of your choices could have been better, and what they cost against perfect play — measured on the dice you actually had. A high score can still be a well-played game, and now you can see it. • Game quality: how often you found the best move • Replay any finished round, throw by throw • Core statistics and your recent history GAME CENTER Five Daily Dice leaderboards and eight achievements. Optional: without Game Center, everything else works the same. MADE LIKE A REAL BOX Wooden dice that tumble in 3D, a clatter when they land, a click for every tile and a small tap in your hand. Tiles that cannot help are dimmed, so you never have to work out the sums yourself. A guided practice round shows you how it all works. In English, Danish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, Portuguese, Polish, Finnish and Japanese, on iPhone, iPad and Mac. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No ads, no account, no tracking. Your games stay on your device; a Friend Box leaves it only when you choose to send one, as a link, a code or through your own iCloud. PREMIUM The whole game is free. Premium adds depth for players who want to get better: • Earlier Daily Dice, back to 1 January 2026 • Bigger boxes: 1–10 and 1–12 • Coach in Solo • More games of Pass the Box • Training Lab — practise the positions that cost you most • Review your choices, throw by throw • Box Rating • Advanced statistics and progress insight • Your whole history beyond the last three days • Analysis during replay, and replay at 0.5× and 2× • Dice speed: Slow and Fast Premium is available as a monthly or annual subscription, or as a one-time purchase, Premium forever. All three unlock exactly the same thing. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and can be managed in your Apple Account settings.
