SimpLoop - A (Fairly) Simple Looper Plugin (AUv3) SimpLoop is an audio effect plugin that can run standalone, or in any AU compatible host application such as Logic Pro or GarageBand. Overview - SimpLoop is a fairly simple looper What does "fairly simple" mean? Well, SimpLoop can be configured to be a very simple one button looper - tap to record a loop, tap again to play your loop, then tap to stop and clear the loop. Alternatively, you could assign 6 button functions and two expression controllers to a MIDI hardware controller for an extremely dynamic live looping setup. To help understand what SimpLoop is, it might be easier to cover what SimpLoop is not... SimpLoop does not have any form of tempo sync capability, or support for multiple sync'd loop tracks or A/B "verse" / "chorus" sections, etc. SimpLoop also does not have an undo function or support for importing audio files (*), and it does not remember the recorded loop between sessions. There are several more advanced looper apps that do those sort of things, but if you're new to looping, or you just need a compact and basic looper to include in your setup, SimpLoop was designed for you! (*) You can export your recorded loops as .WAV files. SimpLoop was also designed for live, "on the fly" looping, and could almost be considered "old-school" now, as it draws inspiration from hardware guitar looping pedals that started becoming popular in the early 2000's. As a live looping "veteran" myself, I wanted to create a looper that included some of my favourite hardware pedal features, plus a few things I wished that those pedals had back in the day! As well as basic looping functionality with a 60 second maximum loop time, SimpLoop includes reverse and half-speed toggles, and a multiply function that doubles the current loop length. For example, you could record a one-bar rhythmic loop, then tap Multiply twice to create a four-bar loop made up of 4 repeats of your original recording. Additional features include an auto-record option, variable record fade time for seamless loops (great for creating drones!) as well as different mode settings to determine how the loop, stop and clear commands work. For maximum hands-free looping enjoyment, I recommend using SimpLoop with some kind of MIDI controller that can send MIDI CCs via buttons / switches or knobs / expression pedal inputs. Otoo is a streamlined, one-screen groovebox designed for frictionless music production. Built around an innovative free-form step sequencer, Otoo breaks away from rigid grids, allowing you to place, drag, and stack notes freely across independent rows. Whether you are sketching out ideas using the native built-in engine and sampler or hosting your favorite third-party AUv3 plugins, Otoo delivers a distraction-free environment that prioritizes speed and musical flow. On iPhone, the interface dynamically scales to give your AUv3 instruments a near-fullscreen home, paired with a compact, highly responsive keyboard for immediate creation on the go. Otoo also includes Otoo MIDI, an AUv3 MIDI processor version of the app. It brings Otoo’s pattern-based sequencing into compatible AUv3 hosts, where playback follows the host timeline and instruments are routed as MIDI Out destinations instead of audio instruments. Distraction-Free Workflow • The single-screen layout keeps your sequence, arrangement and mixer visible at all times so you never have to dive into menus. • A free-form step sequencer lets you place, drag, and stack notes across any row without rigid instrument or track restrictions. • Step editing mode gives you precise control over note length, velocity, and timing subdivisions. • The gesture-driven mixer allows for quick volume adjustments, muting, and soloing directly from the main grid. • 4 rows on iPhone and 5 on iPad, with multiple instruments available in each row at different steps • 2-octave keyboard for playing and learning real notes Sounds and plug-ins • Up to 8 instruments per project • Built-in sounds and sampler • Use any installed AUv3 instruments in a large, near-fullscreen view with a compact keyboard • Up to 2 AUv3 effects per instrument • Sampler with instant key-by-key recording and chromatic mapping Patterns to full songs • Build songs from simple patterns • Draggable loop markers for quick arrangement changes Performance mode • Live sequencer and audio effects such as reverse, beat repeat, randomize, swing, triplet, tape, and more • Play the pattern like a keyboard by tapping steps directly Other features • Main output with built-in level protection • Automatic metronome when recording live into empty patterns • Export patterns or full songs as WAV or MP3 for easy sharing • Export performances as perfect loops • MIDI export • Supported time signatures: 4/4, 3/4, 4/4T and sequencer swing.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Otoo at 5.0 against SimpLoop's 4.0. Otoo also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 60%) and chart position (#167 vs unranked). SimpLoop's advantage is price ($2.99 vs $6.99) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.6). On ads, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.
