Free AI photo calorie counter. Snap a meal, review the estimated calories, protein, carbs and fat, edit anything that looks off, and save it to your food diary. No subscription is needed to log. Your food diary, meal editing and daily totals are free, with no trial and no account needed to start. Free AI analysis is included every day: up to 10 analyses per device. PHOTO TO FOOD LOG Take a meal photo, check the foods and portions that were recognized, adjust them, and save. AI results are estimates you can edit before saving. RECORD YOUR WAY Take a photo, search the food database, or scan a barcode. Quick-adjust a portion to 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%. See today's calories, protein, carbs and fat and your meals in one place. Goals are optional. WHAT IS FREE? Your food diary, meal editing and daily nutrition totals do not require a subscription. AI analysis has a daily allowance of up to 10 analyses per device. Photo and voice analysis share this allowance; food search and barcode scanning do not use it. This is not an unlimited scanning plan, and Plates Plus does not increase it. The app interface is in English. OPTIONAL PLATES PLUS Plates Plus is an optional subscription that adds a protein floor report: a PDF of your last 4, 8 or 12 weeks (days logged, days your protein floor was met, protein per day) that you can share with a dietitian or care team. The report needs a protein goal, which you can set in the app. You don't need a trial or a subscription to log meals. If you're eligible for a free trial, the App Store shows its terms before you confirm. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel your subscription in your device's subscription settings. Nutrition estimates are for general information, not medical advice. Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Plates at none against Numia's 1. Plates also leads on ratings volume (23 vs 2). Numia's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.7). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Numia sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $2.99 per month. Plates asks for nothing beyond the download.
Numia holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Plates has 23 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.
