MIDIProbe is a pocket MIDI utility for iPhone and iPad that helps you discover, test, and troubleshoot MIDI devices (e.g., controllers, synths, mixers). Pick which endpoints to send to or listen to, fire off the exact MIDI commands you need, and watch a live, timestamped log to verify every message. • Discover USB, Bluetooth, and RTP network MIDI devices, and see detailed info like IDs, serial numbers, and transport type before selecting send/receive targets. - Send MIDI fast with interactive cards: - Notes, Control Change (CC), Program Change, Aftertouch, Pitch Bend; - System Common (Song Position Pointer, Song Select, Tune Request); - Real-Time (Start/Stop/Continue, Clock, Active Sensing, Reset); • Monitor inbound MIDI with a live log or grouped-by-command view, with filters for command types, clear controls, and timestamps. Typical use cases: • Reverse-engineer mixer control quickly: You have an X32 mixer and want to use a floorboard to mute/unmute channels. Connect both to MIDIProbe, discover the right endpoints, and watch which channel/CC/value combinations actually toggle mutes—then verify your floorboard sends the exact same messages before you risk it live. • Map a foot controller to a multi-FX unit: You want to configure a floorboard to switch presets/settings on your multi-effects processor. Use MIDIProbe to identify which Program Changes or CCs trigger the functions you need, then confirm the outgoing messages match your intended mapping. • Confirm keyboard controller channel routing: Check whether your keyboard is transmitting on the correct MIDI channel (or accidentally sending Omni), and verify splits/layers are hitting the channels your synth or app expects. • Validate DAW controller templates: Debug pad controller mappings for Ableton/Logic/Cubase—see exactly which notes/CCs each pad/knob/fader is sending, catch duplicated CC numbers, and confirm bank switching. • Troubleshoot “why doesn’t it respond?” fast: If your synth/module isn’t reacting, use MIDIProbe to confirm whether it’s receiving anything at all, whether the messages are on the wrong channel, or whether you’re sending the wrong command type. • Verify pitch bend and high-resolution CCs: Check pitch bend ranges and whether devices send 14-bit (MSB/LSB) pairs correctly for smooth parameter changes. • Build and test custom hardware/software: If you’re developing MIDI controller firmware or a MIDI iOS/macOS app, use MIDIProbe as your “known good” sender/receiver to test parsing, edge cases, and message timing. If you’re into this kind of thing, MIDIProbe is for you.

Open a MIDI file and make it your own practice session. MIDI Me is a free MIDI player for listening, exploring parts, and practicing at your own pace. No ads, subscriptions, paid unlocks, accounts, or tracking. LISTEN OFFLINE Start playing with the included General MIDI soundbank. Import your own SF2 or DLS soundbank, or choose an available CoreMIDI destination to send notes to another instrument. A built-in demo lets you try the player immediately. PRACTICE YOUR PART Slow playback down or speed it up. Mute or solo individual tracks, repeat an A-B passage, and transpose melodic parts by up to two octaves in either direction. Standard drum channel 10 keeps its percussion pitches. Adjust instruments and levels by MIDI channel, and return to the settings supplied by the file whenever you like. Your practice settings are remembered for each song. SEE THE MUSIC Explore a piano roll with zoom, pan, pitch labels, and follow mode. View lyrics, markers, and cue points when the file contains them, and jump to their positions. The piano roll shows the original notes. KEEP YOUR LIBRARY LOCAL Search and rename songs, arrange playlists, and build a playback queue. Removed songs can be restored. Your imported originals stay unchanged, and your library and settings stay on your device. Switch between light, dark, and system appearance, or use the mini player while listening. SAVE OR SHARE Export the unchanged original MIDI, or render the full song to WAV with your selected soundbank, speed, transpose, and mix. MIDI export preserves the original file rather than applying playback edits. WAV export renders the whole song, not just an A-B selection. FILE SUPPORT AND PRACTICE NOTES Supports Standard MIDI File formats 0 and 1 with beat-based timing, including compatible .mid, .midi, and .kar files. Format 2 and SMPTE-timed MIDI are not supported. Files are limited to 64 MB, 1,000,000 events, and 250,000 notes. A-B loops use 50 ms polling and are not sample-accurate. Muting or soloing a track also filters its SysEx messages, which can affect global sound setup in some files. Transposed notes outside MIDI's pitch range are omitted. Tracks sharing a MIDI channel share its instrument and level. WAV rendering is limited to two hours. MIDI Me plays musical instructions; it does not convert recorded audio to MIDI or provide sheet-music notation. Lyrics appear only when included in the file. External MIDI destinations need their own sound source.

Verdict
MIDI and MIDIme are too close to call on the numbers: across 5 compared parameters — price, ads, in-app purchases and device support among them — neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.
