Paste an article, open a PDF or send a page from Safari, and SpeedyReader plays it back one word at a time, anywhere from 100 to 1,200 words a minute. Your eyes stay put, so you stop re-reading lines. Most people read about 250 words a minute. At 500, a 5,000-word article takes 10 minutes instead of 20, and a 300-page book takes about 2½ hours instead of 5. You see your speed after every read, and Metrics keeps your streak, your personal records and a running total of the time you've saved. The method is RSVP, rapid serial visual presentation. In normal reading your eyes jump from point to point and drift back over lines you've already read. Here every word lands in the same place, lined up on its optimal recognition point: the letter your eye locks onto first, shown in color. Import PDF, ePub, DOCX, ODT, RTF, TXT, Markdown, HTML and CSV files. Share links from Safari, News, X, Mail or Messages, or paste anything you've copied. Scanned and image-only PDFs go through on-device text recognition, and on devices with Apple Intelligence, Magic Wand repairs the broken lines and hyphenation a scan leaves behind. Books and long PDFs open with a chapter list, so you can go straight to the section you need. Warm-Up starts you slower and ramps up to your target speed. SmartFlow adds a short pause at the end of each sentence. Choose from six highlight colors and four fonts, and pinch to resize the word. Your library and reading history sync through iCloud across iPhone, iPad and Mac. On Mac, Space and the arrow keys control playback, and Keep Window on Top holds the reader over whatever you're working in. There's no account to create. What you read stays on your devices and in your own iCloud. Slowburn

Some books ruin you. This is where you keep them. Slowburn is a reading journal built for romance readers, and for everything a five-star rating cannot hold. It records what a book did to you while you were still inside it, not just whether you finished. THE BURN One dial. Five levels, Cooling up to Ruined. Tap the one that matches how badly the book has you, whenever you pick it up. Slowburn keeps every reading and draws the curve: the slow build, the chapter that ruined you, the cooling after. When you finish, the curve is named. Slow burn, wildfire, flicker, steady, cooled. It becomes a card you can keep or share, and the card carries the shape. Never a word you wrote. A SHELF THAT LOOKS LIKE A SHELF Every book stands spine-out on a shelf that fills as you read, each one bound from its own cover. Ribbons hang from the books you are inside, tinted from wine to flame by the latest Burn. Covers and List views are there when you want the analytical face of the same library. THE JOURNAL, IN YOUR WORDS Status, rating, spice, tropes, moods, the line you keep, the private note nobody else reads. Thirty-eight romance tropes and an Other for the ones there is no word for yet. A spice scale with its own vocabulary. DNF with a cause of death. Content notes: what you noticed was in a book, private, in your own words. Progress is a page or a percent. Not a timer. Not a streak. YOUR READING, READ BACK TO YOU Your mood profile, your trope profile, and the spice gap between what you say you want and what you actually finish. Reading Identity reads ten insights off your journal, each a plain function of what you logged, each saying how many books it rests on. No generative AI writes your Reading Identity. No personality test. The Monthly Post-Mortem is a dossier rather than a dashboard: the body count, your type, the one that ruined you, the disappointment. Each section appears only when your month can support it. A FEW PEOPLE YOU CHOSE Circle is people you invited one at a time. No public profiles, no followers, no feed. A handle separate from your journal, and only what you hand over. Buddy Reads are one person, one book, two positions, with notes sealed at the page you leave them until the other reader gets there. PRIVATE BY DEFAULT Your journal is a database on your phone. There is no sign-up and no account to make. Your library is not synced anywhere and the company cannot read it. What leaves is what you deliberately hand over, and your book searches, which go to Open Library to find the book. Everything exports as one file, or your books as a spreadsheet, whenever you want it. Bring a Goodreads or StoryGraph export and Slowburn reads it on your phone. FREE AND PREMIUM Slowburn has a free journal tier with shelf, rating, spice, tropes, moods, notes, the Burn, stats, Circle, Buddy Reads, and every privacy feature. Premium is the deeper reading: the full Reading Identity rather than one insight, Compare, the whole Monthly Post-Mortem, the premium card families, and a vote on what gets built next. $29.99 a year or $4.99 a month, with fourteen days free on the annual plan. Nothing about privacy or safety is behind the paywall. SUBSCRIPTION TERMS Slowburn Premium is an auto-renewing subscription: Slowburn Premium Annual at $29.99 a year with a fourteen day free trial, or Slowburn Premium Monthly at $4.99 a month. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. It renews at the same price unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends, and you can manage or cancel it in your App Store settings at any time. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
