Japanese OCR
Read full descriptionHide full description
Japanese OCR turns photos, scans, and PDFs of Japanese text into editable, copyable text entirely on your device. Built on Apple's Vision framework, it recognizes both horizontal and vertical Japanese (縦書き), handles mixed Japanese/English, and rebuilds the page's layout so the text you copy looks like the page you scanned. Nothing ever leaves your Mac, iPhone, or iPad: no servers, no accounts, no tracking. All recognition runs on-device, and the app has no network access at all. Key features: Accurate Japanese OCR powered by Apple Vision, with automatic language detection for mixed Japanese/English documents. Layout reconstruction: line breaks, paragraphs, rough column alignment (great for receipts and tables), multi-column reading order (magazines, articles), and right-to-left vertical text. Switch between structured and flat output anytime. Zoom & pan the page: pinch, double-tap, or use the on-screen controls to inspect fine print and verify the recognition. Scanned PDF pages are re-rendered at high resolution on the fly. Low confidence regions are outlined in red so you know exactly where to check. Search inside the recognized text with live highlighting. Wide input support: PNG, JPEG, HEIC, TIFF images and multi-page PDFs. Born-digital PDFs are read straight from their text layer (instant and exact). Drag & drop supported as well. Export to RTF (monospaced, so columns stay aligned) or plain text, and copy per page or the whole document. Native for Mac, iPhone, and iPad, fully localised in English, Italian, and Japanese. 100% on-device. No internet connection is used or required. No data collected, no tracking, no ads. Requires macOS 15 or later / iOS 18 or later.
