If you were asked, right now, to name your favourite painting, could you? Most of us have none, and it is not for lack of feeling or interest - we were just never shown. No one ever walked us past the Impressionists, sat us down with Caravaggio's darkness or Turner's light, or told us which five painters to start with. Art Bites is your cicerone — the old word for the cultivated guide who once led travellers through the great works. It brings you the whole history of art, one work at a time: a painting you never knew existed, the mind behind it, the moment it belongs to. As machines conjure infinite images to be glanced at and forgotten, Art Bites does the opposite: it returns you to the greatest human works ever made.
